I default to shoving either a gammon joint or braising steak/stew in mine & would like to use it more for main meals.

What's your favourite recipe that works well in your slow cooker?

Various stews, soup is good.

This pulled pork recipe or lamb tagine

Vampirethriller · 17/08/2022 13:15

I do biryani, just start it off on the stove like normal then layer it up in the slow cooker, cook it on high 4 hours.
Any curry is good really, but I always start them off on the stove or they don't seem to be as nice.

PON Campfire stew. Winter food at its best

AKnitterofThings · 17/08/2022 13:24

A piece of beef with 2 oxo cubes, an onion and half a cup of water for 6 hours on high. Sliced and had with a roast dinner one day and then the leftovers heated up in the stock and thickened with real bisto the next day and served with mashed potato.

Curry, campfire stew, spag bol, chilli, sausage casserole, and right now I have a fajita type mix thing in there cooking for dinner tonight.

Easiest Chilli ever

beef mince
frozen onions
frozen peppers (obviously can use fresh but then it’s not the easiest!)
a jar (liquid and all) red jalapeños (these can be difficult to come by - I buy in bulk online. If you can’t get them replace with half a jar of green jalapeños and a tbsp sugar)
sprinkle of thyme
2 oxo cubes
can of kidney beans
salt and pepper

bung it all in slow cooker - give it a good mix cook on low for 8 or high for 4.

once cooked give it another good mix and shove in a couple of tbsp of gravy granules to thicken up.

Beef stew. Not eaten meat in 18 years but it's lentils, mushrooms, potatoes, chestnuts and suchlike, with some fake meat (or meat I suppose) like soy chunks, sausages, etc.

Tin of tomatoes, tin of stock, spoon of marmite, Henderson's relish, soy sauce,

You get the idea, and you put it on high for 5 hours and it's delicious.

Served with mash.

Firstly, cook the sausages in the oven first to kind of seal them and crispen the edges. When that's done slice them up, pop them back in, and then use them in the slow cooker - then they don't disintegrate.

This can work for any sausage or fake meat, but I do recommend Richmond above any others, they are just the best texture for me. I loved meat, so like it replicated. So that's what I'm looking for. Thankfully it's easy with sausages given meat ones are often only a small percentage of meat.

But you can get a nice big bag of soy chunks on Amazon and they can go straight into the slow cooker with lid on.

Thank you , will definitely give that a go

lorn195 · 17/08/2022 23:28

The slow cooker is a hit in our house. Try chicken curry, spaghetti bolognese, whole chicken, lasagne and sometimes I roast potatoes in it as well.

ihatebojo · 17/08/2022 23:35

I love beef adobo in it.

I can't bear chicken or mince cooked in it though.

Soups and stews are good too, but not in this weather!

My absolute favorite slow cooker recipe has to be pulled pork with a homemade BBQ sauce. It’s so easy to make and always comes out delicious. Just throw a pork shoulder in the slow cooker with some onions, garlic, and spices, then let it cook all day. By the time it's ready, it’s so tender you can shred it with a fork. I like serving it on buns with some pico de gallo. It adds a fresh, zesty kick that complements the rich, smoky pork. Plus, making a big batch is super easy, so you’ll have leftovers for days.
