Hi,

A few months ago I was having a really tough time in my personal life and mentally wasn't very well. Everything was just falling apart and I wasn't coping very well with things .

At around this time I started to have panic attacks and dizziness. Sometimes it was so bad I felt like I was going to pass out and got myself into an awful state.

Since then things have started to calm down and I haven't had a panic attack in over a month. The dizziness has mostly went but I still don't feel quite right. I don't feel like myself anymore and have had these symptoms:

  • feeling like I'm swaying, rocking or very slowly turning around
  • my head feels like it's filled with cotton wool, very hazy, "fuzzy" or "foggy"

-lying down makes it feel worse

-feeling nauseous

  • Bright lights can trigger it or make it feel worse (especially supermarkets)

-feeling like things aren't "real"

  • tiredness when these "attacks happen"

I should say that these symptoms can appear when I'm at home resting or shopping etc, so I don't think they're triggered by stress. Blood test came back satisfactory so it's not caused by any deficiencies.

"Attacks" can last hours, sometimes overnight, then go away for a day or two and come back.

Vertigo was one of the possibilities that came up when I searched so I just wanted to ask if anyone who suffers from it has these symptoms and if it sounds like Vertigo is what it could be? I will go back to the gp obviously but just looking for personal opinions. Thank you

When I got vertigo it was like the room spinning faster and faster and tighter and tighter and made me feel very nauseous but I wasn't actually sick. I found lying face down brought some relief (but hard to find a position where I could breathe!).

Just reading an earlier post, I realise that I haven't had an attack since I started HRT. Interesting.

Like a PP, however, the other symptoms you've listed:
my head feels like it's filled with cotton wool, very hazy, "fuzzy" or "foggy"
Bright lights can trigger it or make it feel worse (especially supermarkets)
feeling like things aren't "real"
tiredness when these "attacks happen"

happen to me when I have a migraine and are best relieved with paracetamol. I get bright zigzagging lights heralding the migrane and if I take paracetamol as soon as I notice bright bits in my vision I can halt the full blown migraine and just get the fogginess, unrealness and tiredness.

Hi OP sorry to hear your suffering, those symptoms aren't pleasant.

I was diagnosed with Benign Positional Vertigo about 6 years ago and my symptoms come and go. Fingers crossed ivr not had a bad attack for quite some time. For me it's as if the floor is suddenly dipping to thr extreme side, not nice.

I find it's triggered by bright artificial lights, and often comes with a feeling of claustrophobia too / changing room cubicles are a bugger. Also long supermarket aisles with very high shelves ... Tesco seems to do it Confused

Another one is, you know when it's s sunny morning and you're either walking on a path with park railings alongside or driving down a tree lined road and the sun flickers through really quickly? I always feel out of sorts after that.

And weirdly - and would love to know why this is - my symptoms are worst during hot weather.

Aaanyway no help to offer I'm afraid but wanted to be here in solidarity Grin

I had a peripheral vestibular disorder after a viral infection, it is like permanent labarynthitus. cawthorn cookie exercises really helped me. I was given medication to start, strong travel
Sickness pills but the exercises were the best help
For me.

Yes to both! I would love to know why, too!

Just opening back up..
9 weeks ago I had alot of travelling. Came home to a motion type dizziness, no sickness. Thought it would pass but hasn't. I've had so many medications from sturgeon, citrizine, betahistine even proponol for anxiety and I even tried an ssri but nothing helped. The ssri was awful. Bloods OK. Saw ent said ears ok. Got an mri but not holding much out there. Feel this weird pressure in neck and shoulders like being pulled down. Lack of sleep. Awful when sitting especially. Any help??

Antibiotics cured mine and a good physiotherapist who gave me exercise to do.

I'd had a cold which unknowingly had infected me sinus, ear wise. No pain just the vertigo. Spent six weeks in bed. You can get it from a cold, swimming etc

@Cbpoppy any chance it hormones. I used to get vertigo badly when my hormones were all over the shop, as a teen, after having children and more recently I started experiencing it again and turn out I'm in perimenopause

Cbpoppy · 27/07/2024 13:38

Hey girls thanks for the reply..
I had a course of antibiotics in the start just in case but did nothing and also had hormones checked. I'm 42 and doesn't seem to be any issues there.
Just so odd was fine till went on train. 9 weeks it's awful. Keeps me awake at night. Worst feeling is being pulled down all the time. Seen physio and osteopath. Got mri in 4 weeks but not holding out much hope. Doctor thinks I'm going crazy I think with ssri and anxiety but I know it's there! Thinking of trying the betahistine again for a week or so, so depressed 😔
