Post in the pet section. Or there are rat owner groups on Facebook

I've sometimes failed & sometimes succeeded at integrating new rats in.

We had rats years ago. Loved them to bits. But not sure two that have been together awhile would take to a new one.

i was advised by pet shop to get two as they said if i got one the older two might not take to new one brought the new ones home so far so good with older rats one is more motherly than the other the others a greedy sod and has food hidden all over cage and is protective of it but hopefully things should be ok 😋

I have 9 boys. Babies must always be in a pair when buying. This is such an important time in their development. They should be at least 200g before carrying out controlled introductions, I'm guessing females could be lighter (look up carrier method).

Join rat care uk Facebook page, for future do not buy pet shop rats or off gum tree etc. unfortunately there are far too many rodent mills/backyard breeders (think puppy farms). There are many fantastic breeders who breed to enhance health and temperament (best bet is a NFRS registered breeder however nothing is fool proof).

Be very careful of cage size, food and bedding recommended by pet shops. Do not use PAH nuggets, the quality is shocking. Cages need to be at least 100cm long ( this is the bear minimum, bigger is always better). Plus rats must not be kept alone, it's cruel as they are very intelligent and social animals.

I know you will have most of this info already sorted but it's mainly for the benefit of anyone seeing this thread and interested in being a first time owner.

Enjoy your little ratties, they are so adorable aren't they.
