Isn’t it mad how different you can look in different mirrors?!

There’s one mirror in my bedroom where I look ok, another in the downstairs toilet where I look terrible, another in the hallway where I look nothing like I look in the other two etc!

I mean I presume it’s down to things like lighting/positioning/quality of glass etc but it’s very disconcerting when I leave my room looking passable, and by the time I’ve got downstairs I look 20 years older!

I like to go down to my garden shed because in the side window I look two sizes smaller🤣🤣

Bladed · 16/08/2022 22:37

Can I go down to your shed please?!

That sounds like a euphemism!

I was in a hotel bathroom today with “skinny” mirrors. I like those ones!

Crumpleton · 16/08/2022 22:42

For me it's the glass they use in shop windows, always seems to add on a good few pounds.

Gardenoverflow · 16/08/2022 22:44

Yes, it makes me wonder what I actually look like.

VickerishAllsort · 16/08/2022 22:45

I look 20 years younger in my bathroom mirror, so it's a hell of a shock when I catch a glimpse in a shop window.

Mummyratbag · 16/08/2022 22:45

I have one mirror that appears to be haunted by an old hag.

Or the ones in the back of lifts. Guaranteed to give me a fright.

Mirrors in changing rooms can be traumatising I find.

Totally agree. The mirror in the ladies' loos at work is horrific. I swear I never had any grey/chin hairs before I looked closely in that mirror. And, of course, when you've seen the shiny, glistening buggers poking out of your chin you have to spend the afternoon trying to pluck it out with your fingers (and everyone knows what you're trying to do!)

purplecorkheart · 16/08/2022 22:46

The mirror in the hairdresser makes me look like a troll

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2022 22:50

I look totally different and usually a lot worse in photographs compared with the mirror in the bedroom.

And if I ever accidentally flip my phone around onto the selfie camera then that's a horror show that no-one deserves to see.

I wonder what the science behind this is?

Bladed · 16/08/2022 22:52

Mirrors in very bright light can be a double edged sword. Yes you can see all those aforementioned hairs that weren’t there 10 seconds ago. But you can also see everything else!

This post reminded me of these pictures I took in a dressing room years ago. It's potentially more of a camera angle thing than the actual mirror, but the difference shocked me so I kept the pictures.

It’s something to do with symmetry. I’d explain further but that’s the sum total of my knowledge on the subject!

You look fab in both those pics but you do also look different in them both!

A certain retailer had these slimming mirrors in the changing rooms so you looked great in the shop...and hideous when you got home with your new clothes.

OK the mirror behind you is nuts! It’s like it’s reflecting someone about three dress sizes bigger than you!

I remember them. B’stards…

Cherryana · 16/08/2022 23:03

I look completely different in photos. On the same day I can look like there is a two stone difference. I actually don’t know what I look like. I fit into quite small clothes so I just gone on that now.

annoyedneighbour1 · 16/08/2022 23:04

@MotherOfPuffling isn't it crazy!
I look more like the reflection these days but at the time I was as tiny as the 2nd pic shows! I didn't recognise the reflection at all.

Miss Selfridge used to have these types of mirrors. Chelsea Girl <showing my age> mirrors were much kinder!
