Is winter wonderland worth it

Has anyone been to winter wonderland in Hyde park? I live in Scotland and it's going to cost me approximately £600 in flights and hotels but my youngest really wants to go. Has anyone been and if so is it worth it?

Jesus no, it's bloody awful.

It's essentially a funfair, but very, very crowded and absurdly expensive when you're in there.

You're talking 20min queues for a £7 hot chocolate type thing.

MadonnasKebab · 16/08/2022 12:36

It’s ok. Nothing OMG WOW AMAZING
it gets busy and be careful cos of pick pockets etc

abovedecknotbelow · 16/08/2022 12:38

If you leaves nearby, maybe. Definitely not Worthing travelling from Scotland to. Been once and won't go back.

Definitely not worth that much!! Plus everything inside is so expensive. The floor is always muddy and covered in puddles, queues are huge and the tubes to and from are a nightmare.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/08/2022 12:43

It used to be good for the first couple of years but it's got bigger and bigger and is now very expensive and crowded. I wouldn't bother from Scotland!

UnityO · 16/08/2022 12:44

No it's awful - no Xmas magic about it at all!!

I thought it was a like a big, overcrowded, expensive fun fair!

Relaxalotl · 16/08/2022 12:45

The first two years it was lovely but now it's too busy, expensive and loud. It's fine if you like funfairs (and spending money) but it's not very festive.

ThereIsATInWater · 16/08/2022 12:45

No way is it worth a trip from Scotland!

It's just a glorified fun fair, where they charge upwards of £10 per ride.

MondayMoan · 16/08/2022 12:47

We go either late November or early December and it isn't that busy. When it opens is best but it can get busier at night which I appreciate with the lights and stuff maybe more appealing.

RumbleStrutt · 16/08/2022 12:47

Not for that price, absolutely not, no. I’m a 45 min train ride away plus tube and we made a day trip of it a few years ago. It was 14 degrees on the day we went which made it less wintery but can’t plan for that.

We did enjoy the ice sculptures and show plus some of the rides but absolutely no way I’d pay what you’re planning. It’s a large fairground you’d get in your local city is how I thought about it. With that amount sure you could do something much more memorable.

TwoBlondes · 16/08/2022 12:51

It's dreadful. Maybe look at Kew if you're down south?

wibblewobbleball · 16/08/2022 12:52

God no. It's an ice rink, fairground rides and a Christmas market with bars. I would imagine you have similar stuff near you at Christmas!

bookworm14 · 16/08/2022 12:56

It’s quite fun but cripplingly expensive. Definitely not worth making a special trip for.

DoubleShotEspresso · 16/08/2022 12:58

Nope not worth the journey never mind the insane cost.
It's basically a few rides, stalls selling overpriced festive tat and plastic shite that refuses to light up again the minute you exit the gate and ice skating. I always wondered how they applied the "wonderland" bit to it. There are zillions of alternatives that are way better value and better fun.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 16/08/2022 13:01

Definitely not! Overpriced, overcrowded fun fair.

CaptainCreepsBourgeMobile · 16/08/2022 13:15

Why does your child specifically want to go to Winter Wonderland? Are they mainly interested in the funfair? The Irn Bru carnival will be much cheaper and you can go on a Christmas light trail if you want something more festive and "Christmassy."

Pinkflipflop85 · 16/08/2022 13:24

Overpriced nonsense.

I begrudged paying the train fare to get there - there's no way I would spend hundreds of pounds to travel from Scotland!

Lampzade · 16/08/2022 13:29

No

MallampatiCatty · 16/08/2022 13:29

No it's tacky and below average. Kew Christmas lights, Blenheim palace lights, lovely. Albert hall Christmas concerts great fun for kids and very festive. None of them are cheap though, just better than WW!

womaninatightspot · 16/08/2022 13:33

Couldn’t you just go to Edinburgh winter wonderland ?

Crumpleton · 16/08/2022 13:42

To me it's just lots of decorated Christmas huts selling pretty much the same thing at the same price and an incredibly expensive fun fair.
While I haven't been for a few years daughter went last year and had to pre book at 6£ a ticket.
Never have I had to pay to get in pre COVID.

It was much better pre Hyde Park when it was along the Thames and only the huts.
I've been to much better Christmas markets and it's highly unlikely I'd go to winter wonderland again.

Saladd0dger · 16/08/2022 13:45

Looks good online doesn’t it? My friend went last year. Her family last a couple of hours before coming home. It was very busy with people pushing in everywhere and bloody expensive.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 16/08/2022 13:47

God no I live in London and will probably go - it’s fun! But no way would I travel from far away for it

it’s essentially a fun fair, ice skating and some food stalls.

User354354 · 16/08/2022 13:50

Absolutely not. Its overpriced, busy and not really Christmassy any more

Haus1234 · 16/08/2022 13:51

How does he even know about it? It’s 1000% not worth that kind of money.
