Teen DD travelling alone today - there’s an announcement about the train splitting which she didn’t quite understand - can anyone tell me where it usually splits? She thinks she needs to be in first 5 carriages from somewhere…..

Just based on memory (and it's been a while) it could be Bournemouth or Poole. Can't comment on which carriages she needs to be in though, best to ask the ticket attendant when they come round.

Also they usually play the notices in the carriage, if she reads the entire thing as it goes past it should mention it.

They also announce it too, but those aren't always clear

Sorry OP you already said the announcement wasn't clear! I find that so frustrating. Either way, if she's starting in London she has plenty of time before it happens.

Just found this on Google, but again best to ask

Either split Southampton or Bournemouth, I usually get in front five carriages to go to Dorchester but get her to double check

The train splits at Bournemouth. You normally need to be in the front 5 carriages to continue to Weymouth. This info is usually on the screens in each carriage, but you can also check with the conductor when they check tickets.

It splits at Bournemouth, you need to be in the front 5 carriages for onward travel to stations beyond.

Train often splits at Southampton. First five carriages is likely to be where she needs to be.

There will be several announcements and the chance to change on the platform at the station.

Tell her not to worry xx

Thanks so much! In the end there were train cancellations and the whole service terminated at Bournemouth and then she had to get another train. Very proud of her though for managing a massive cross country epic including the tube.
