Help. I am a light sleeper, always have been as part of my job involves being on call overnight. On top of that I have ridiculously good hearing, family joke it’s my superpower. DH has always snored, our family joke about how I just really love him as it has always driven me nuts when even my dad snored as a kid)

Anyway he doesn’t drink but is quite overweight. He is doing Joe Wicks to try and lose weight for his own sake and the snoring but it’s horrendous. His parents have had separate rooms for decades due to his dads snoring and he doesn’t want that to happen to us.

so…..he is trying but I’m dying from lack of sleep. I have used Macks 33db foam ones for years but they are no longer good enough. Have now added wax ones on top!!!! So 4 ear plugs in and I can still hear him 😭.

has anyone other recommendations? White noise ones? Anything? Please help

Can you sleep separately? This works for my DH and I

Eon · 16/08/2022 11:06

We also sleep separately. Best decision we ever made because I was either gonna off him or divorce him.

Home bargains sell a pack of silicone ear plugs for 2.99 they saved my relationship with a snorer! My DH has been diagnosed with sleep apnea now and has a cpap machine which is revolutionary

We sleep separately for these reasons. I did try ear plugs but my ears are really tiny so nothing was comfortable and they used to fall out in the night. I got a pair of ear defenders too which worked but you can only sleep on your back then. Honestly separate rooms for your own sanity!!

Peridot1 · 16/08/2022 11:10

Separate rooms. He may not like it but tough. Not being able to sleep because of snoring is soul destroying.

If he loses weight it may help but given his father snores too it may actually still be an issue. There can be lots of reasons for snoring.

Cynderella · 16/08/2022 11:11

Does he regularly fall asleep during the day? If so, google Epworth sleep test - sleep apnoea causes snoring and (I think) can run in families). Being overweight is a factor too.

Otherwise, a sleep band with headphones? If it's really bad, separate rooms is the only answer.

TKRedLemonade · 16/08/2022 11:15

So he doesn’t have sleep apnoea have checked this before, I think the weight and large tonsils and genetics are to blame really. Honestly I don’t want to have separate rooms either although I did move rooms last night. We only have one spare room and lots of visitors so it’s not a permanent solution either.

I haven’t tried the silicone ones yet so maybe I’ll try them next ☹️

Call to your local hardware store I find the ones there are better than the ones you get in the pharmacy etc

BlueChampagne · 16/08/2022 13:16

You can get a trial pack from Snore Store and see what suits you best.

BlueChampagne · 16/08/2022 13:17

Or get him to try and sort it out ... www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/jul/16/snoring-was-ruining-my-marriage-heres-how-i-finally-cured-myself

TattiePants · 16/08/2022 13:59

I swear by these earplugs from Screwfix. I've used them every night for probably 20 years and no longer hear DH's snoring.
