London show at Christmas

We're planning to visit London between Christmas and New Year and were thinking of going to a show. Not too fussed which one, but would need to be suitable for a 12 year old. Do you think there's likely to be some deals on today tix etc? Or best to book in advance?

That’s a busy time of year for theatre, especially family suitable shows, so I would guess there won’t be many deals.

You’ll find much better prices if you look at non west end theatres - National Theatre, Kingston, Islington, Southwark for example. West End prices are insane! Show could be a Christmas present though?

I wondered if that might be the case! We're going to Warner Bros as a Xmas present, so not sure budget will stretch to full price west end tickets too...

Any tips for fun (good value!) things to do in London at Christmas?!

Frozen has fantastic special effects if they don't feel too old for it.
Matilda's a safe bet if you want something that's good.
Six the Musical is great for that age, but is is quite short.

Might be slightly too old for it, but the Snowman ballet is brilliant.

South bank has a Christmas market.

Harrods is great to look around at Christmas.

Seven Dials are pretty. And also Covent Garden (there’s an Apple store there also).

A lot of museums are free.

Are you doing Warner Brothers on same trip, as that’s not in London, but outside near Watford.

Thanks everyone! Yes sorry I know WB at Watford but we're staying on train line so easy journey into the centre for the other couple of days.

Circus 1903 is on in London over Christmas. I've seen it twice now and it is amazing! Traditional circus skills like juggling, acrobatics, contortionists and so on, and they have fab (life size) elephant puppets too. Definitely suitable for a 12 year old. circus1903.com/

Second Circus 1903 although the price has gone up a lot since I went.

also you could look at ice skating…tower of London, Somerset house and natural history museum usually have rinks (though Tower of London didn’t last year).

Wicked sell discounted tickets at a certain time in the morning at the theatre (think it's around 7-8am). Or at least they did years ago. They are front row tickets for the show that day and I think there were circa £20. Not sure if other theatres do the same?

Christmas at Kew is the best Christmas thing to do imo. Just so well done and really gets you feeling christmassy.
