Ok people - I need your ‘stop itching’ remedies

It’s like I’ve got fleas (I don’t) or chicken pox (I don’t).

We have swarms if fruit flies (I know they don’t bite so may be completely irrelevant) at the moment and today I am itchy all over. It’s driving me crazy and my arms and legs are raw. I think I have a tiny bug bite on my backside.

My skin is burning! I’ve taken an anti histamine (usually helps) but that’s not helping at all.

Cold shower? Bathe in yoghurt? Aloe Vera gel? I don’t think I’ve got and calamine lotion or anything like that.

owy ☹️

Lanacane really helps me - I recently had a rash on my arm (don’t know if it was heat rash or allergy), and it itched like fury, and spread. I tried hydrocortisone cream (I get eczema and thought it might be that), but it carried on spreading. Lanacane stopped the itching, and cleared it up (or it coincidentally cleared up).

It did lessen when the rain came and the air cooled - but it’s ramping up again now. Grrr

Sounds about right WineWink I suppose, if you are not a wine drinker, you could buy some corks from Amazon / eBay or somewhere... but who knows... maybe drinking the wine could help with the itching?*

*this is in no way medical advice 😂

Metal teaspoon in hot water then press it on the bites or itchy parts. Hot as you can handle but please don't burn yourself.

@goldfinchonthelawn most definitely not your son 😀.

But, interestingly, my nephew has quite bad eczama, and we have compared notes on what seems to help.

We are a family plagued with auto immune illnesses eczama, asthma pernicious anaemia , So I've always just thought my itchy skin is down to that. I have a liver and kidneys function test each year which, so far, have never shown any problems.

Tap rather than scratch your skin if you really need to.

Anti histamine cream for insect bites, pharmacy are helpful.

As pp have said cool bath, or even just a cold wet flannel on the sore areas. Oat bath is soothing. Don't use any bubble bath/shower gel/bath bombs etc.

Use emollient to wash in, only put mild soap on sweaty bits.

With all my sympathy, as I'm dealing with a what feels like a humongous patch of prickly heat rash, and a psoriasis flare up.

And eczema friendly full on anti itch moisturising cream.

Your skin is probably dry and once you start scratching it really does get itchy.

Is it hives from eating too much fruit?

Vick’s vapour rub (or generic) can also be effective for insect bites, if you have nothing else that works it’s worth a try. I think it’s the menthol.
