Oh boy. I'm stuck.

Here's the scenario:

I'm lying on our bed next to my sleeping toddler. Every time I tried to put her on her cot in her own room she cried so hysterically she actually scared me because she's never cried like that before. She isn't unwell.

I'm 9 months pregnant and due to have a C-section this Thursday.

I'm in excruciating pain with SPD and have no painkillers or drink to hand.

I haven't eaten since 8am. Had a visitor this morning who left later than I had anticipated and fed my daughter whilst visitor was still here with the intention of grabbing lunch after visitor had gone because my toddler almost always has a nap after lunch.

I can't leave my little one on the bed on her own. She's in the middle of a king-size bed so I could put lots of cushions round her but they wouldn't stop her falling off the bed if she woke up whilst I popped downstairs for a few minutes.

I can't and won't leave her unattended upstairs unless she is in her cot (she can't climb out yet) as there is no baby gate at the top of the stairs and nothing to stop her falling.

She will sleep for at least an hour.

Is there a safe way to leave her unattended for about 10 minutes whilst I go downstairs for a snack, drink and pain relief? I will not compromise her safety for my own comfort but I'm in so much pain I'm dripping with sweat.

Pillows and duvets over the floor.

I have co slept since birth (also got a massive cot avoider) and she fell out of the bed once, landed on a mountain of pillows, looked confused, climbed back up and went back to sleep!

It’s definitely a drip feed OP, totally changes things - by 2 most kids are perfectly capable of climbing down off a bed; given that there’s a genuine reason that your DD isn’t then of course it’s relevant! However, it’s done and she’s up now, and tbh at 39 weeks pregnant in this heatwave you could be arguing that black was white and probably still get a free pass 😁 I hope you feel better now you’ve had something to drink and some pain relief - get yourself and little one plenty of snacks and snuggle up on the sofa with her. Telly, cuddles and chill time for you both! & good luck with the new baby, hope all goes smoothly and well 💐 for what it’s worth I had brutal SPD with DC2 and 3 and both times I found child + newborn heaps easier than child + baby. Life is really hard when everything hurts all the time!

I'm looking for sleep solutions for my 2 and 4 year old. They both fall asleep in their own beds but come in to mine in the middle of the night. So husband is now in the spare room but I'm still so squashed! They sleep at strange angles and I'm getting more and more tired. Has anyone done a single next to a king size or do I need it bigger? My bed has a really thick mattress and is high so I'd want to find a single the same height. Anyone any cool Mum suggestions or ideas? X
