I’ve just started a six month sabbatical from my business and I want to use the time wisely.

I want to find a new passion. I can play music and crochet. I’ve dabbled in watercolour painting which I will do more of.

I want to try as much as possible so I’m looking for inspiration.

What is your hobby and why should I try it?

Wildlife photography. Get outside with your camera and snap. I've seen so much...little things, scary things, beautiful things, amazing things!. Yesterday it was a wasp spider in a web covered in rain drops. This morning, a white tail eagle in Poole harbour! How great is that!

Leatherwork. I used to love it, I made purses, keyrings, wallets. You need patience (and tools) but it's very rewarding

Oh god yes! Leather is the most wonderful stuff to sew by hand. There's a real sensual pleasure in it.

Another vote for dressmaking. It's so meditative, and there's a fabulous community of sewists who are similarly obsessed. There are some great patterns and books aimed at beginners - Tilly and the Buttons for example, where patterns are explained in detail with photos - quite different from old-style patterns (Simplicity, Vogue Burda) which are much less detailed. Both are great but if you're starting I'd go for something that holds your hand through your first couple of projects.

I've taken up tap dancing! Its surprisingly exhausting so good for my fitness and it gets my brain ticking.
We have a right giggle and I've made some friends as we sometimes head for the pub afterwards. No-one minds if you get it wrong as we're all beginners together.

Photography as you can then also be an amateur historian, or make scrapbooks, ect

Card games, magic the gathering. Easy to learn the basics although does get more technical with the rules, bit like being a solicitor at times, and can be from casual, to very competitive. Helps team building, and morale. Plus helps improve critical thinking skills and strategy skills.

Here's my wizard's library, which is work in progress… making and buying in billions of books. Then they all need a wash of cold tea to make them look old.
I am looking forward to dirtying up that gleaming pristine floor and adding some cobwebs. 😀

Might be an idea to attach it…
