Sound On TV Programmes

Is it just me or is the sound getting worse on a lot of tv programmes? Incidentally my hearing is fine. So many these days seem to have really rubbish sound & I have to whack the volume up really high. Sometimes I miss whole chunks of dialogue. So frustrating!

Yes!!! This is so frustrating

EVHead · 14/08/2022 21:38

Yes, then you switch to a normal channel and just about get blasted backwards by the roaring sound!

carbon60 · 14/08/2022 21:39

Yes, and the the adverts come on and you have to grab the remote because the sound is booming!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/08/2022 21:39

I have default subtitles on nearly everything due to this. No hearing problems.

purpleme12 · 14/08/2022 21:40

Oh right.
I do wear hearing aids so have subtitles on anyway but if other people say this then there's little hope for us!

OldTinHat · 14/08/2022 21:42

Yes! Drives me crazy. I've resorted to subtitles so I can understand what's going on and not blast my neighbours when the ads come on.

Does this thread come from trying to watch Marriage on bbc1 tonight? I had to double the volume and even then couldn’t hear all the dialogue. Then the music started and the ceiling nearly fell in… I’m no longer watching it 🤷‍♀️

I had trouble hearing a lot of shows until we got a new TV with a ‘clear voice’ sound option and also a sound bar.

ShinyPikachu · 14/08/2022 22:03

I use subtitles all the time because of this. I often find speech is quiet but action scenes are way too loud so if you turn it up it starts blasting as soon as anything happens. Yes to the adverts always being super loud as well.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/08/2022 23:05

Sockmonkeysloth yes absolutely!

I think the bbc are particularly bad. I think it's because things aren't filmed in HD.
Netflix is great.
Also some tv's work better with a soundbar.
Agree it's super-annoying

I use subtitles all the time, except for BBC news, their subtitling is always way behind with dodgy spelling !
