Insect bite flare up advice needed (with photo)

I was bitten just over a fortnight ago, three bites on legs, red spots, slightly swollen at first, and very itchy, but then started to fade and itching stopped. Not sure what but me as no stings or insects were spotted.

Until yesterday when the itching started again and the one on my thigh, the largest, approx 4cm, has spread from a red spit to this. One on my ankle is smaller but similar. The third on front of my leg has remained the same and is still fading.

I'm worried it's infected or might have been a tick bite? I've been taking antihistamine tablets and using eurax cream but it hasn't made a difference. I have hydrocortisone cream but not sure whether to use. Any advice please?

Get yourself seen tomorrow please! By hook or by crook. Either GP or walk in centre.

Slidey23 · 15/08/2022 23:18

that needs seeing asap. If your GP isn’t responsive you should go into A&E.

frostyfire · 15/08/2022 23:22

I promise I will try again, but failing that will try the walk in centre. I'm in a bit of a panic now (is it really a & e worthy?), I haven't seen it for hours as I was out an an exercise class!

I suggest A and E. Sounds completely over the top but my sister in law was seriously ill from a tick bite and the GP called an ambulance

Another one saying you need to see a medical professional. I don't think it's usual to test for lymes. But they do treat as though you have lymes. (Certainly where I live) . 30 days strong antibiotics.

Keroppi · 16/08/2022 00:16

You can call 111 or out of hours at your GP

Just say what you've said here, outdoor bite, contact with a deer so concerned about lyne disease, its gotten worse, more raised and red and you're concerned it may be infected

They should just give you antibs sometimes they will just prescribe over the phone

This is mine - 3 days - should I be worried?

I really think it's a tick bite, best to see a gp, incase any of its body is left behind. Plus not sure about risks of lyme disease.

Rubyupbeat · 16/08/2022 06:13

Maybe go to a walk in or even a pharmacy.

@Threelittlelambs Do you know if you were bitten by a tick? I'm certainly no expert but otherwise I'd suspect a horsefly because of the tiny blisters.

The phone is constantly engaged at the surgery! It might have to be the walk in centre, though it's looking less red and angry (the one in the latest photo from my thigh) this morning.

Can you do an e consult? I did one for my daughter, emailed the photos and they sent the antibiotic prescription to the pharmacy

cathyandclare · 16/08/2022 10:22

Even if the rash goes, it's still important to see a doctor. If it is a bite from an infected tick, you can subsequently develop general symptoms after the rash.

LIZS · 16/08/2022 10:24

Agree, even if the bite appears to subside you need to see a hcp.

You need to be seen, preferably a couple of days ago. A walk-in/urgent care type of setup can definitely handle something like this. It’s exactly the kind of thing they are designed for.

Gherkingreen · 16/08/2022 17:46

I react badly to mosquito bites and had to have antibiotics (injected and oral) once after being bitten on the leg in the USA; doctor advice was to draw around the red area with a marker so you can monitor whether it's growing or receding.
Definitely get it looked at if poss, even if it's not a tick bite, it may still need antibiotics.

At what stage did you go to the doctor if you don't mind my asking?

@frostyfire Sorry, I missed your question. I called the GP as soon as the redness started to spread. It was also hot and painful. I hope it's feeling better now. 😊
