I swallowed a wasp and it stung me around the oesophageal area

I was super busy running around as it was my dd's 30th bbq with lots of guests and I literally ran over to take a swig of the punch she'd made from my glass ( stupidly didn't look in the glass ) and didn't realise that I had swallowed it until it was nearly the back fo my throat and I was swallowing it ( it was a good size mouthful ).

For some reason every summer in august we get an awful lot of wasps ( we live rurally ) and I should have checked.

I just wanted to say check your glasses before you drink anything sweet!

It stung me immediately but luckily not in the throat it was sooooo painful Sad sort of at the top do your stomach area ( I think where your oesophagus is ) lord it hurt all night and when I went to sleep after whacking down an antihistamine and two paracetamol plus two ibruprofen it was wearing off.

Luckily this morning all the pain was gone but bloody hell it hurt like hell and I won't lie I did panic a bit.

Anyone else ever been stung I really by a wasp? A guest at the party phoned their Mum who's a nurse and she advised lots of water and an antihistamine.

My son took a sip of his drink and there was a wasp in it. He spat it out, but not before he stung the roof of his mouth. I had to get the sting out with tweezers. The poor mite was so brave, he was only 7!

I've long wondered what it would be like to have OP's experience (!)
Wasp stings on my outside skin only hurt for about an hour, then nothing for a day, then they itch like crazy for a few days. I was hoping low nerves in throat might mean less pain not such prolonged pain. :( I hope yours doesn't itch bad, OP.

I got stung in my mouth - was telling the kids off then took a swig of my drink without looking... Tongue and inner cheek swelled up and I'd had previous extreme swelling after wasp stings so DH threw me in the car and drove me to A&E where I sat around looking like a balloon in the waiting area but all was fine, I'd have been better at home sucking on an ice cube.

Nasty moment though, OP you have my sympathy.

Does anyone remember the same thing happening in Home and Away?! It freaked me out for years afterwards!! OP I hope you're OK, I would probably just drop dead from one of my worst fears coming true.

I actually wrote the post yesterday and got stung the evening before ( Saturday night ).

I'd say it hurt for a good 4 hours or more and the thing I'm most grateful for is that I was NOT stung in the throat as I was swallowing it ( a rather large gulp of punch might have helped 🍹🤣.

I'm not going to lie it hurt like hell all around the area that the middle bit of your bra is between the cups ( but Internally iyswim? ).

Dh was frantically on Google for advice whist my daughter was in the longest ever queue for 111 and he said there wasn't a lot of info on the web about what to do if stung internally by a wasp so I can only conclude it's not that common.

I will always be careful from now on as I was busy and frankly given the amount of wasps around should have paid better attention.

It hurt all the way through to my back sort of and it throbbed for bloody hours.

I was stung a couple of days ago.
I get a severe localised reaction so what happened to you would be an emergency situation for me.
How scary regardless, you poor thing!

JaneJeffer · 15/08/2022 11:30

Hope you're ok @Wagsandclaws I fucking hate wasps.
