Why is my son is being sick?

DS started throwing up this morning and hasn't stopped since. He can't even keep water down. None of us have left the house since Tuesday. The rest of us all feel fine and we've all eaten the same food. What on earth is causing it?

We spent the evening in the paddling pool yesterday and filled it with bubbles (child's farm body wash). DS splashed around a lot and is likely to have swallowed some water - could it be that? The water had been in the pool for two days and there were a few bugs and bits of grass floating around in it.

Overnight it was over 30 degrees indoors in every room and DS didn't drink much - could it be heat exhaustion or dehydration?

He only slept from 4.30 to 11am (sadly this is normal, he's autistic). Could it just be general exhaustion?

At about midnight I noticed a strong smell of cannabis throughout the house. We live near an alley and someone must have been smoking, and all the open windows and fans meant it really filled the house. DS's room is very small and he was in there with the door shut (won't allow anyone to open it) so he could have breathed in quite a lot - could it be that?

The cause doesn't really make any difference, I'm just trying to distract myself as I'm so worried! He hasn't kept a sip of water down all day and it's sooo hot. I'm obviously worried about dehydration. He's insistent he feels fine but he's very weak, just fell asleep for two hours and has a mild temperature. Obviously if he doesn't get better I'll seek medical advice!

How old is he firstly?

Could be water from the pool, goodness knows what microscopic thing was in there.

That and heat exhaustion?

Does he have the runs?

Have you any diarolyte he can have sips of in-between sips of water?

bloodywhitecat · 14/08/2022 17:20

It's more likely to be heat or the paddling pool water. Can you give him water from a syringe or teaspoon every 10 - 15 minutes? A sip is likely to be too big for him at the moment.

Could it be heat exhaustion or sun stroke from being outside lots yesterday?

Hopeandlove · 14/08/2022 17:23

heat stroke I would think as first guess.

cold but not freezing cold bath now, toilet on head with cold water, put another one in the freezer and swap every 30 minutes. Get ice lollies to suck and if he is still unable to keep water down - depending on when and how frequently he is being sick phone 999.

He's 6, no runs and he's licking on an ice lolly now, will see if that stays down

And we were only outside in the evening yesterday, so I don't think it would be sun stroke. It is very hot indoors & out though

I'd say heatstroke. I've suffered several times, hospitalised once, and continuous vomiting was very much a symptom.

Thanks all, he's better now. Kept down an ice lolly then perked right back up. I think it must have been the heat overnight combined with not enough sleep and not enough water. Fingers crossed for some cooler weather soon.
