Boring q: toddler bed or single bed? Where to buy?

We are moving and have too but new beds. SS will be 2, he's been sleeping on a floor bed, his crib with the sides down and no feet.

Now I want to get a trundle bed but they are all single. But I've been out of the U.K. for so long I don't bloody know where to buy kids beds. Every thing looks crazy expensive and crap quality.

Single trundle bed will be fine?

suninthefog · 14/08/2022 14:18

Ok but where to buy? Even IKEA only has crap options.

I don't recognise any of the brands/websites when I Google it. Plus I'm
Not spending £800 on a kids bed.

The ikea extending bed is great - when it’s pushed in short, it has slides but at full length it still works for a teenager. And chrsp

Try wayfair

CredibilityProblem · 14/08/2022 14:43

IKEA. Or look in a British Heart Foundation or similar charity second hand shop.

I would buy a single rather than a toddler bed for a 2 year old.
Does it need to be a trundle bed? DS has a divan. Bed plus mattress came to well under £800.

Off topic, but if you are moving back to the UK, I highly recommend setting up an account with topcashback.co.uk
We got about £500 in cashback the first year we were here because we were setting up everything - utilities, insurances, and buying expensive things like beds. Subsequent years haven't been as lucrative, but still 3 figures for an extra couple of clicks. I've got a referral code to get us both some extra cashback if you choose to go down that route.

Single bed then if he’s ill and comes into your bed, you or DH can have his bed instead.

Ikea or Argos are the way forward. M&S or John Lewis are also good but will be more expensive

Ikea’s are good and very solid. I’d get a trundle. Our daughter went into one at three (from a cot), and I expect it’ll still work when she’s ten or older. Plus the trundle bit for sleepovers or storage.

Thurlow · 14/08/2022 15:01

Single definitely, it means you don’t need to buy another one in a few years and yes, it means other people can sleep in it if needs be - really useful for bad nights when you’re sharing with them or playing magical mystery beds.

The IKEA ones are absolutely fine. We have www.ikea.com/es/en/p/malm-bed-frame-high-w-2-storage-boxes-grey-stained-luroy-s19385776/ and I like it because the frame is wide and it makes it even easier to share.

Single bed. Dd has one that was bought 40 years ago. £800 doesn't mater then.

If you are moving house I'd let the toddler sleep in his 'old' bed for the first while. It helps him settle.
Also on moving day, just bring the same sheets and duvets and duvets without washing them and put them on the kids beds in the new house. So they smell the same as 'home' for the first while.
My top tip having moved house with kids quite a few times.

thebestmom · 21/08/2022 12:38

you can try kids bedding sets

Notjustabrunette · 21/08/2022 13:41

I got my sons bed from the children’s furniture company. It was a single, but had rails on it. I wouldn’t bother with a toddler bed as he’ll soon grow out of it. My daughter has a trundle bed, but what I would say is that it’s quite high. She got it when she was 4.
