Low oxygen sats - any ideas what's wrong?

Back in April I started getting very dizzy. My smart watch said my oxygen sats were regularly dropping to between 80 and 85%. (Checked with finger oximeter and comparable results)
Doc did loads of tests and decided that my iron and vitamin B levels were all just on the low side of normal but not massively so.
Gave me vitamin pills and said to come back in 3 months.
Initially it helped and my sats went back to normal but recently I have started fainting and for the last 2 weeks my sats have been under 85 more often than above it.
Saw a different gp who said it must be my ears, but he did blood tests just in case. Will get results next week.
Any ideas what it could be as feels like gp clutching at straws and I feel terrible!

Have you been checked for pernicious anaemia? Have you had cardio issues ruled out?

No medical training!

RampantIvy · 13/08/2022 19:35

Covid?

LittleMissGreen · 13/08/2022 19:43

Did have covid in June with very mild symptoms

Had an ecg and awaiting results

I don’t see how anything to do with your ears could make you lose consciousness? Feel dizzy and perhaps vomit yes, pass out no.

Did you keep taking the medication? If it worked initially and you felt better it would seem like that’s what you needed. Did you finish the prescription and not get another one yet? And then the symptoms returned?

Lots of women who have heavy or frequent periods need to be on iron for life. Sometimes also B vitamins and folic acid (folate). Perhaps you are one of them.

Once you get the results back you’ll be in a better position to know what’s up. Thyroid, losing too much weight/not eating a healthy and balanced diet, insufficient food or water, getting up too quickly can all cause problems.

The biggest worry for me is the covid vaccine. Many people have had heart and circulatory issues from that, however it’s not talked about much.

fruitflyhater · 13/08/2022 19:46

If there was any objective evidence of sats under 85% you would have been admitted to hospital for urgent investigations. I am going to assume two things; firstly the doctor checked your sats when you went saying your sats were 85%, and secondly they didn't find that with their (calibrated) equipment. So I think there might be some confusion on your end or faulty equipment involved.

I don’t think it’s responsible to say that about the covid vaccine without linking to credible sources.

When the first doc checked my sats they were at 88 - same reading as on my oximeter at the time. She said to keep an eye on them.
The second doc didn't check them.

Do you have breathing issues / lung issues?

LittleMissGreen · 13/08/2022 19:57

Not as far as I'm aware, but currently get breathless

Any allergies?

LittleMissGreen · 13/08/2022 20:02

Only hay-fever

OP, if you have no known lung disorder like COPD and your sats are currently that low, you should go to A&E. That is absolutely not normal and nothing to do with vitamins or ears.

iamshergar · 13/08/2022 20:14

I find it hard to believe any doctor would see unexplained sats of 85 and not send you to hospital

Me tooHmm

Namenic · 13/08/2022 20:20

Maybe they could do xray and special blood test in hospital to measure oxygen from artery?

LittleMissGreen · 13/08/2022 20:21

They had been better today (above 95)
Until this evening

Says below 92% are worthy of oxygen and or nebulisers. You should go to A&E. But, it might be worth checking on someone else what their readings are in case your oximeter isn't working properly,

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/08/2022 20:24

Ring 111. Tell them you feel dizzy, breathless and your sats are 84%. Pretty sure an ambulance will be sent and they will be able to confirm your sats.

Or just get yourself you a&e and don't call an ambulance for something at has been going on for months?Hmm

I agree, I'm asthmatic and had pneumonia before Christmas (admitted to hospital for 48 hours) and my SATs didn't go below 90.

vipersnest1 · 13/08/2022 20:27

I meant to say SATS.

CockSpadget · 13/08/2022 20:29

When I get anaemic my sats drop, but only to the low 90s, if they had ever gone to mid 80s I would have got myself to A&E, and I think you should to.

I’ve looked at that article but closed it down as soon as I saw the words Joe Rogan.
