Day trip to the Peak District

Hi,

Me, my partner & 2 young children (20m & 9mo), are thinking of going for a day trip to the Peak District for the first time.

Any recommendations on what to see/do? Any fun things for the kids? Pretty walking trails/views?

Thanks.

Definitely Heights of Abraham, I can recommend the cable car. Also caves, can’t remember the name of one I went down which was amazing. Might have been this one www.bluejohn-cavern.co.uk
The river at Matlock Bath is very pretty , especially if it’s still lit up in the evenings. It’s a beautiful area.

We like the stepping stones at Dovedale which are reached after a small walk from the car park.
Also ladybower reservoir to see the plugholes or Fairholmes visitor centre to see the dams. Unfortunately neither will be over flowing at this time of year.
Beautiful walks in both places.

Monsal Dale Head - features the old railway viaduct that's in every programme about the Peak District and is now part of the Monsal Trail. There's plenty of parking, a pub, and a cafe.

The Monsal trail is a walk we really like and going through the old tunnels too. A short steep walk up to the Monsal Head pub for ice cream and a short stop. The views around Monsal Dale and the viaduct bridge are stunning.

Another vote for the Heights of Abraham.
The caverns are great on hot days because they’re always cool! Speedwell Cavern is a good one.
Dovedale is nice but gets very busy.

Rent bicycles at Parsley Hay (or bring your own) www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/cycle/bike-hire-centres/parsleyhay and ride the Tissington Trail letsgopeakdistrict.co.uk/listing/tissington-trail/
Or you could walk it. The trail is quiet, flat and traffic free. There is a café and parking at Parsley Hay.

We’ve always wanted to do something like that! Perfect! Thank you!

I would also recommend the Longshaw Estate, it’s part of the National Trust and great for walking and views. There’s a little stream or brook than runs through and you can dip your toes in.
