Does anyone have any tips for not getting bitten alive or do I just need to be resigned to it.

Just that. We’re off to Florida next week. I get bitten all the time. I’ve been bitten multiple times this week in the U.K. My husband, who sleeps in the same room - no bites. My son who does the same thing during the day - no bites. I guess I’m just tasty.

I’ve read about garlic tablets and mozzie stickers but have read that they don’t work. I’ll obviously be using spray but has anyone found anything to stop me getting bitten to death?

Hopefully,

Oh and the afterbite gel that contains ammonia is fantastic, it stink like cat pee though.

I take anithistamines every day anyway, spray with DEET and those plug things. Nothing stops them.

Just want to say to everyone...

Tiger balm for bites.

Lady in an apothecary in Bangkok 20yrs ago used that in my horrible swollen bites and they went cold and stopped itching. I now carry Tiger Balm in my handbag all thro summer.

I hope you aren't bitten, but if you are...

Tropical strength DEET. You can buy it here and it works brilliantly (don’t get it near your nail varnish!!). I always take it with me as I don’t trust American stuff like that as their laws are much more lax than ours and they use a lot of banned ingredients. I cover myself after a shower in the evening, and used to put in light leggings, and a long sleeved top. This year I didn’t bother and wore dresses and was fine, carried on working through the night too. I also use it on my face and I have sensitive skin and it doesn’t seem to irritate it, just do a light coating on forehead and cheeks.

Tropical strength mozzie spray with deet. Spray everywhere, including clothes. Re-apply all day as you will sweat it off.

Don’t use any product that extols its natural, chemical-free virtues. They won’t work on mozzie-attractors.

Weirdly, plug inside work at night. I wouldn't believe this but having recently been unfortunate enough to have to go to Greece, where I spent a childhood being eaten alive, I was pleasantly surprised. I use deet also but be careful if you wear nail varnish, it wrecks it.

I did have success with yeast tablets but IIRC I had to take lots - even I could smell a faint yeast smell on my skin!

Avon Skin So Soft never worked for me.

(Thanks to a PP I will be packing Tiger Balm for next time we go away to see if that stops the itch!)

What spray do you use? You need one that's scientifically proven to deter mosquitoes.

That means DEET or something like incognito antimosquito or something with picaridin in.

Marmite, I used to get bitten loads, I started eating marmite and very rarely get bitten now.

I used this on holiday this year, as well as stretchy mosquito bands www.amazon.co.uk/Badger-Anti-Bug-Balm-2oz-Tin/dp/B000V4YESO/ref=asc_df_B000V4YESO/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218103797956&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13448479926442026804&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006502&hvtargid=pla-411676993116&psc=1

I got bitten on the first afternoon when we'd just arrived before I got this out the case but then didn't get bitten the rest of the 10 days we were away. Others in the party did so there must've been mozzies around, and I usually get bitten a lot (diabetic, sweet blood 🙈).

ednatheevilwitch · 13/08/2022 09:40

This doesn't help with preventing the bites but it is amazing once bitten. I used to get lots of infected mozzie bites but as soon as I'm bitten I use this to suck the bites and the pain and itching goes! Just Google 'aspivenin' it's a green syringe type thing.
