Child maintenance

I’m going to be calling on Monday but just thought I would check here if anyone knows so I opened a case again after closing it last year I got a letter through today that says my ex has another child maintenance claim open for other children (news to me I had no idea he had other child) he is on benefits so what does that mean is it halved between the children? If that’s the case I’m just going to close it again, he is denying having other child but obviously the cms are saying otherwise...

I would keep it open and when it comes through he will need to ring and let them know he doesn’t have any other children. It is halved but the overall amount is slightly higher I think. For 1 child while on benefits it’s £5 per week

FlyingSaucerss · 13/08/2022 02:34

I’ve just found out it’s open tomorrow I think so will call them then, I’m not fighting over £15 a month if he has other children he is paying for they can keep the full amount I don’t need £15 a month, mind you I don’t need £30 either but I wouldn’t have opened it again if I had known.

The flat rate for NRP on benefits is £7 per week regardless of how many children there are.

This is split by the number of children, so if you have 1 and the supposed other parent has one you'll get £3.50 each.

If you have 2 and she has 1 you'll get whatever 2/3 of £7 is and she'll get 1/3

And so on.

Jesus Christ, what a fucking disgrace. How is £3.50 per week 50% of the cost of raising a child?

We really need a Government that will force both parents to meet the actual financial responsibilities of children. And who will change the tax system so that lone parents/ single parents aren't taxed massively more than other households with the same income.

Appalling beyond words.

Well they are not open today, don’t know where I read that they was! I don’t know how many children the other one is it doesn’t say, would they be able to give that information? I don’t want any personal details just how many and ideally when the case was open as this must have been opened in the time mine was closed as I’ve had a case with Cm for 5 years and its always just been my case, he is point blank denying it but I don’t expect the truth from him.

Yes, it's a measly £7 no matter how many...

Lalala1 · 13/08/2022 12:38

If you log in to your cms account online and go to case details there should be a part that says XXX also pays £ for YYY children.
If I was you I would keep the case open regardless just for the principle of it if he's on benefits you won't need to chase him for it anyway it will get took straight from his claim as measly as it is(I know) x

I agree re taxes - single parents should get fairer treatment.
