Very very heavily dependent on budget but if yours is fairly healthy then Solihull.

Warwickshire is lovely but ex-pen-siiiiive (I can only afford to live here because we're in a vicarage!)

Leicestershire. Fab schools, easy access to countryside and city. Less than 2 hours into London by train and car.

Worcester/Malvern and surrounding areas. There's some nice villages with small primary schools.

We live in Shirley in Solihull and it's awesome for kids. Schools are good and the general lifestyle is good.

Biased as I'm Leicester based too but another vote for Leicestershire.

I'm City now but grew up in the countryside, 30 minutes walk to the city centre, 5 bus routes within a 2 min walk from my house, 4 'Good' primary schools within 10 min walk and 3 'Good or 'Outstanding' Secondaries within 20 min walk.

Easy access to loads of lovely parks, 1hr train to London, and reasonably priced houses depending on which bit you look at.

I live in South Birmingham but if I had the money definitely Solihull.

yoshiblue · 12/08/2022 21:29

My brother and family are in Sutton Coldfield, seems like a nice area with good schools and access to Sutton Park.

WishDragon · 13/08/2022 11:32

Nottingham is really nice. Obviously it has it’s not so nice bits same as any city.

thechiefstew · 13/08/2022 11:35

Worcestershire - Worcester is a lovely city if you like city living, easy train routes to Birmingham and elsewhere in the UK. Lots of surrounding villages with excellent local primary schools, and good selection of private schools to.

Frith2013 · 13/08/2022 11:52

Herefordshire

WishDragon · 13/08/2022 11:54

Herefordshire is beautiful, I’m from there. But some bits are very rural and not much transport. Although the snow days were fun!

Elsiebear90 · 13/08/2022 11:55

Sutton Coldfield is very nice with good schools, but pricey.

Youngatheart00 · 13/08/2022 11:56

Really depends what you are looking for - where are you moving from? Do you tend to like city or rural life? Hobbies / interests for you and the children?

user1471468579 · 13/08/2022 17:57

Thank you all! Moving from Oxfordshire, prefer rural but need a good play park/soft play and can drive. Need to be within 30 mins of a Hospital and ideally 15 mins of a large supermarket. Like walking in the countryside.

Shrewsbury! Gorgeous place to bring up kids, all the gorgeous Shropshire countryside and easy access to West Mid city/towns for work.
