School shoes in adult 13

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/08/2022 10:57

DS is 13 has very narrow adult size 13 feet. I'm struggling to find him school shoes that fit. Size 13 is rare enough, without adding narrow fit!

He grew out of "children's" shoe sizes ages ago.. For the last couple of pandemic years,he's had mail order school shoes from m&s, but is now out of their biggest sizes too.. His current school shoes mail order from Next, now too small, in length, but massive in width. I really need to get him some better fitting shoes for next term. And cross my fingers his feet have stopped growing!

We've been avoiding shopping centres etc as I care for DM who has cancer,, but I'm now feeling brave enough to go to real shops again. Is there anywhere I can get audit Size 13 shoes fitted? School uniform requirements are "boring, black lace ups, like your grandad would wear to a funeral". No DMs or plain black Converse/Nike etc.

DS2 has very narrow feet and has these for school shoes. They seem to go up to very large sizes.

How about Clark's?? You could order afew pairs either to home or to the shop to click and collect and let him try them on?

lastminutedotcom22 · 12/08/2022 11:31

I say order in as perhaps they might not have many in stock I'm not sure?

@southoftheriver i think they’d be too informal for his school, but they yocknlots if other boxes. Thank you.

@lastminutedotcom22 that was my plan, but they only have a very limited selection in a 13, nothing formal and nothing narrow fit. We know that their standard fit is too wide.

Following as we're going to have this. My DS has startrite, but they only go up to men's size 10 so he's in his last size. He needs school shoes, i.e. he runs around at breaktime so needs decent grip and durability, not men's dress shoes. Watching with interest for suggestions.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 12/08/2022 11:59

Op these are Skechers & go up to a 13. It looks like you can get them in a narrow fit if you email them.

John Lewis are very good if you go in there and chat to them. DS2 went there desperate with his big feet the day before school started pre covid as they had suddenly grown. They had some big sizes and also put insoles in which helped with the narrow feet. They were not cheap but they were good and lasted well. We now buy the Sports Direct ones southoftheriver recommends. Cheap, sturdy enough and go even bigger than 13 if needed.

DS has narrow feet and got these from Jacamo in a 12. They say standard but he felt comfortable with the laces helping - granted only for a wedding as he forgot to pack his expensive ones! 20% off with FRY20 too.

Pod theo or pod wessex are your friend. My son is a 14 and very narrow and these were his school shoes for a good few years and now he is an adult they are his formal shoes.

Walk tall website also have school shoes in big sizes (I can’t seem to link).

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/08/2022 12:14

@CoffeeBeansGalore, those look great. They are very similar to the M&S shoes he had up to size 10. I've never bought Skechers, but their is a shop not too far away. Their website is currently showing them out of stock above 10.5, but I will email them.

@gegs73 I remember John Lewis shops fondly..... but I may make the trek to Manchester if it comes to it.

DS's shoes have always had at least one set of insoles and heel grips to make them fit narrow enough. Starting with narrow fit helps reduce the amount of volume adjustment needed (a long time ago, dh used to fit walking boots and running shoes, he's done some training and is full of tricks).

@Skelligsfeathers, the Wessex look ideal, as long as they are not too wide we can probably but enough volume adjusters in.

The Theo shoes wouldn't be allowed, like the Sports Direct ones, they are not allowed raised "pasty" seams.

Thank you all for these leads. I'm feeling a bit less despondent that yesterday.

Sports Direct

That's where I get my Bigfoot's school shoes. When he stops growing I'll get him men's shoes from Clarke's or John Lewis or similar, but it's just too expensive when they need to be replaced twice a year. He's now a 14 in some makes Confused

Sports Direct do formal shoes as well as trainers and casual shoes. There's not a massive selection in the sizes our boys need, but we always find something acceptable. Fortunately ds's school recognise the difficulty and accept him wearing slightly less formal shoes than regulation, as long as they are completely black. Similarly trainers, where the rule is all white, they accept him wearing trainers that are almost all white. Thank goodness he no longer needs football boots as well!

Just been googling and seen this website but looks expensive 🤦🏻‍♀️

CMOTDibbler · 12/08/2022 12:29

DS has had Dr Martens service shoes for the last 4 years and they are incredibly hardwearing, no yellow stitching on these, non slip, and much cheaper than their fashion range. Go up to a 15 as well

Skelligsfeathers · 12/08/2022 12:29

The wessex fitted my son who was a d/e fitting. Really hope you have some luck.

We're not allowed DMs or DM type soles, and aren't they terribly wide ?
