Theatre trip next Thursday... Strike day!

Have tickets for Wicked next Thursday 18th at Apollo Victoria. Usual journey would be via national rail but they are striking. As far as I can tell, tubes and buses will be running so we will be able to get there with a combination of both but is it madness to even try? I can't get a refund/date change on the tickets so ideally would like to still go but trying to be realistic.

If anyone has travelled in central London during any of the previous strike days and can give some sort of idea of how bad any knock on effects to services still running were that would be great.

Depends where you're travelling from but Victoria is easily walkable from a lot of places and well served by buses and tubes

Not impossible, but worth moving to another day if you can. Temperatures likely to be only in the mid 20s so better than if it was this Saturday.

Can you travel up the day before and stay the night?

Where from? Can you drive part way the tube/bus or coach onto Victoria coach station?

RusholmeRuffian · 12/08/2022 08:14

I had no problems on the Tube during the strike day a few weeks ago. It was busy but not insanely so. I would park on the outskirts somewhere and get the Tube in. I parked at Westfield Shepherds Bush.

Thanks for the replies, seems like it's not complete madness then. We're coming from Epsom so usually would get the train straight to Victoria. Plan is now to get bus to Morden, Northern line to either Stockwell and then Victoria line to Victoria or get off at Oval and get a bus. I was just worrying that it would be insanely busy and I'll have 2 9 year olds with me.

It won't be crazy busy, most people will just work from home. I've been in for the last two strikes - Thameslink is running a very random Sunday style service, but that might not benefit you.

Tubes are fine.

Ubers - they will be ££££, that was the thing I noticed.

AmandaHoldensLips · 12/08/2022 08:29

I had this exact same situation during the last strike. The venue were very understanding and offered me a full refund or different dates. Give the box office a ring.

Skinterior · 12/08/2022 08:29

Nearly forgot, some of the tube stations might be closed if they share an entrance with a National Rail station - Blackfriars was last time. So worth checking on Victoria.

Quartz2208 · 12/08/2022 08:38

Ah from the same place (almost) as me!

I think you will be fine - can you drive at all maybe somewhere further up the line (we are in Cheam) to cut some of that out. I get why parking at Morden may not be the best idea

I assume you are talking the matinee?

Thameslink isnt a bad shout - there are 2 trains an hour between Sutton and London Victoria and it is easy to get between Sutton and Epsom
