What is this on my hand?

I've had a lump on my hand for a while. It hasn't been painful until today when it is really very painful and the pain is kind of all around the area in the knuckle joint. Anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it? Doctors appointments are pretty impossible to come by so it will a Pharmacists be able to help?

What was the lump like before? Did it move about or was it still? I had a gristly lump for a while that then went away, it moved a bit as if floating. Has it got any bigger or moved? Perhpas it has moved over a nerve and that is why it is hurting? Or it could be getting bigger/worse.

The pharmacist can certainly help with pain relief, no harm in asking them. But according to this NHS advice you should see a GP: www.nhs.uk/conditions/lumps/ and it suggest a ganglion cyst.

I have taken a photo but it won't let me post it for some reason. I dont think its a ganglion cyst I have had one before on my wrist and that was more like a lump under the skin. This is sitting on the top like a rice crispie but red.

Ah got the photo to upload. I've been to the Doctors who have referred me to a dermatologist to rule out skin cancer but I've been googling (I know) and jt does look similar to images I've seen of Basal Cell. Anyone with any experience of anything that looks like this?

I've not seen anything like that, hopefully other more knowledgeable people will be along. It is good you are being referred, shouldn't be too long given it is specifically to rule out cancer. It looks quite sore!
