Where to eat in Salisbury?

Hi, we have a long weekend in Salisbury booked, staying fairly central near to the cathedral. We have three late primary / early secondary aged children with pretty basic tastes in food. I wondered if anyone knows any nice (but not too nice or too pricey!) places to eat in the centre or just outside for a weekend evening? Thanks!

There's a Prezzo just off the Cathedral Close, which whilst it is a chain is in a beautiful old timber framed building. Ask for a table upstairs as downstairs can be a little cramped.

I second Prezzo. Very pretty but I preferred it when it was book shop!

There is also Cosy Club near to the cathedral, opposite the car park, which is nice but also child friendly.

Anokaa in Fisherton street does great Indian food.

Reeves the baker is good for sandwiches, pastries and donuts the size of your head. It's in the market Square.

I haven’t been to Salisbury for about 5 years and now all I can think about is a massive Reeves doughnut.

Try Alpino! Family owned italian restaurant, very good prices and portions - it is in New Canal, just in front of Nationwide , the access is a bit tricky through a stairs .

I’ve just remember another good one: Lahko in Fisherton Street, child friendly with a nice children menu and board games

They do really good food in an inn setting at The Ox Row Inn, Sunday roast was superb last time I went there.

We have lots of Italian restaurants to choose from. Presto, Zizzi, Pizza Express, plus an independent one on the market square.
Boston Tea Party is great for breakfasts and lunches.
There is Cosy Club in New Street, a Wafflemeister just down from the high street gate to the cathedral (which also has a restaurant which is quite nice) and a Cote Brasserie which has some great set menus. Also near there is Carwardines which is a cafe with a good priced varied menu. Just outside the city we have a Harvester. If you Google restaurants salisbury lots come up which might show something more your tastes.
If you are there this weekend then there is an open air cinema in The George Mall

There’s a Wagamama’s if the kids’ tastes run in that direction. Most kids I know are happy with a plate of cod cubes and some rice.

While you are in Salisbury, it’s worth popping your head into the Odeon - it’s not your usual multiplex. On the market square they also have Crazy Croquet and table tennis, which you all might enjoy.

claracluck1978 · 11/08/2022 19:10

Another here suggesting Reeves for sandwiches/snacks. I think my kids would eat a Reeves cheese straw everyday if I'd let them!

Boston Tea Rooms is kid friendly and after a certain time of day kids meals are free/v cheap depending if parents are eating

Mine also like Byron burger.

The tearooms at the cathedral are nice, too, as is the cafe at the museum. We enjoyed a good slice of cake there last weekend 🍰

Tinga! It's very good

Kualma · 11/08/2022 22:40

Do you like Thai food? I love Giggling Squid. My favourite (chain) restaurant and the food is reasonably priced

watcherintherye · 11/08/2022 22:45

Salisbury is awash with pubs, eateries, coffee shops, tea rooms and a very fetching piazza/pavement cafe vibe atm in the Market Square (only happens in hot weather!) The Silver Plough, Pitton and the Bridge, and the Wheatsheaf in the Woodford Valley are only about 15 mins drive. You’ll be spoilt for choice!

Bobbyelvis4ever · 11/08/2022 23:29

My kids love Wildwood; Barouska; Giggling Squid; Tinga; cafe Diwali.

and Reeves. You must go to Reeves.

Dobcaty · 11/08/2022 23:32

The Old Ale and Coffee House just by the cathedral gate (opposite to Prezzo) quirky, independent pub with beach huts in the garden and loads of board games for the kids!

Tinpan24 · 12/08/2022 20:32

Thank you so much everyone, I am going to get busy googling all these suggestions. I am beginning to think I need a week in Salisbury just to eat at all these different places. I promise we will visit Reeves! Wafflemeister also sounds amazing. Maybe we won't actually need evening meals...

Thanks also for the other suggestions for things to do and see - really appreciated😊I feel really excited now.
