I have had an accident with paint in my partner's car

and he is unaware of it.
We cleared the garage out and some paint was left out to take to the tip. The paint is garden paint and is oil based I think. Somehow, I do not know for the life of me how, one of the tins was knocked over and contents spilled onto some charity bags.
I lifted the bags into the back of his car and when I removed them I saw the damage to his leather seat.. in his works car... that he will get into trouble for...
He was not involved at all - he was at work when we did the clear out.
Does anyone know how to remove it? I tried soapy water and it got rid of the more wet stuff but there is still a big stain on the seat and on the back of the drivers seat which he will see eventually.
Help - oh wise Mumsnetters please

You're meant to fill paint tubs with sand to absorb the paint and solidify it. Most, if not all dumps, will not take paint that hasn't had sand added to it.

In future, do this and you won't have an accident.

Call a professional before you make the problem worse.

Absolutely this. If you attempt it I’d bet money on you completely ruining the leather and then you’ll be looking at a retrim.

This is the kind of thing I would do and trying to sort it myself never works and I always make it worse.

For me personally it's never as bad as I think when I come clean (but obviously we don't know if your husband will react badly- only you do).

If you don't want to tell him because you feel a bit of an arse for doing it I would recommend coming clean and telling him. If you're scared of his reaction I'd do what you need to do to sort it and then come back here and read through to realise thats not a normal reaction.
