For 5 and 7 yr olds. I've got into the habit of doing everything for them because its easier, but am hoping to instill some good habits over the rest of the holidays.

Im starting with making their beds when they get up. Not really sure what else to include!

Making beds is a good one, along with making sure their rooms are fairly tidy.
Tidying up toys in other rooms, perhaps setting the table or clearing the table after meals. A bit of dusting, maybe? My kids loved doing that when they were little (not so keen now though!)

DD (5) is often employed to pair-socks in this house.

We always have a bag of odd socks - every few weeks I encourage DD to pair them up. If there's a new toy she's desperately after, I sometimes per pair (not always, she also needs to know that chores are part of being a family).

I have also re-framed chores as "things we do for the family" so it's less like a burden, and more something we all need to do, to keep the house running smoothly.

For the older one, they are learning about protecting the environment and doing their bit to help so we took this opportunity to get dc involved in the recycling. It's their chore now to take out the household rubbish and pop it in the correct recycling bin.

Feeding any animals is a good one.

DD is 6 and since she was 4 she has to do the dusting. We have a telescopic duster and she has to do the skirting boards, tv unit, windowsills and light switches every week. She puts away her washing in the right places. Tidies up her room every couple of days. Waters the plants. Gives the cats their dry food in the morning. Helps lay the table for tea and helps clear away after.
