Urgent Working Tax Credits Qu

I have tried to get through to WTC helpline.
I am either on hold for 45mins + or hung up on or both.

I am a Carer for my two teenagers. I receive Carers Allowance.
I want to know:
How many hours / how much can I earn per week before my Carers allowance is affected?
How much WTC would I receive if I earned, say, £500 p/m, self employed from home?

Apparantly the one person who I actually got to put my Qu to said: 'I don't know, we can't tell you, look online'. Only, it doesnt tell you there, either...

Eligibility is earning £132 per week or less. Hope this helps.

If you are a single parent you would need to work 16 hours to be eligible to claim working tax credits. As above you cannot earn more than £132 a week whilst claiming carers allowance. You may want to put in some scenarios for Universal credit as many people are better off on UC when working and you could still claim a carers element on UC regardless of how many hours you work.

Although having said this, self employment is tricky on UC. Sorry I missed the bit about being self employed at first.

@Babyroobs @Tomanyhandbags

THANK YOU both - much more helpful than Govt site or 'helpline'.

Have to work 16 hrs, cant earn > than £132 so it'd work out at £8.25 p/hr. Hmmm.
I am a Carer to 2 young people with Autism severe enough that I can't take even part time hours at my local Co op as their needs are unpredictable & I get no respite at all that I could use even for work time. Single parent (now, he left..)

I wonder if I would be better off on UC too. Atm I still get income support but I'd like to be able to start to return to work gradually. I am a qualified Counsellor & could work from home but probs only between hours of 11pm & 7am with complete reliability & a more realistic hourly rate would be about £25 p/hr so I don't suppose the Govt would believe I'd charge £8.25 p/hr ( I would just to get my practice started up again so I have a business to be able to build up so I can not have to rely on benefits which are re assessed every 2 years & will time out as the kids get older anyway). It would be helpful if it were easier to progress.
