Would you take a buggy on holiday for a 2.5 year old?

Just that really. I’m very torn. DC2 has been walking since 9 months and is very confident. We usually take the buggy on days out, partly as somewhere to pile all the stuff, picnic, etc, but also in case he gets tired or we need somewhere to contain him.

If space were no issue, we’d take it. But we have a small car. I have visions of us not taking it and regretting it but equally I think we might manage.

When did you leave the buggy behind? It’s a U.K. holiday if that makes a difference so no airport to get through.

Definitely take one.

Yes.

Smarshian · 10/08/2022 22:00

I would 100% take one at that age

MumTrain · 10/08/2022 22:02

Absolutely take one.

abovedecknotbelow · 10/08/2022 22:02

Without a doubt you will regret it if you don't!

CuriousCatfish · 10/08/2022 22:02

Yes.

downwiththebees · 10/08/2022 22:03

Yes. We had a holiday earlier in the year, almost 3 year old came down poorly just as we arrived. It would have been such a miserable holiday if we didn't have the buggy to push him around in as he wasn't really up for walking anywhere. You can always pick up a cheap second hand stroller if space is at a premium.

RooniIWazlib · 10/08/2022 22:03

We stopped taking buggy on holiday before DS's 2nd birthday. He managed fine.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/08/2022 22:03

It depends of you'll be going everywhere in the car really. If you're going to drive from hotel to activity to pub to home you'll need it less than if you're going to be walking to and from the beach every day

BertieBotts · 10/08/2022 22:04

Yes, but it doesn't need to be a massive one. Do you have an umbrella fold or micro fold? Or even something like this is fine for holiday: www.argos.co.uk/product/9445635?clickSR=slp:term:lightweight%20stroller:2:249:1

3luckystars · 10/08/2022 22:04

Absolutely 100% yes definitely take one!!!!!!!!

DelorisVC · 10/08/2022 22:06

Yeah, I would. You'd be surprised how out of sorts they get just being out of routine and in a different place.
A pushchair coild mean they fall asleep and you can have a quiet drink, plus you don't have to carry them around where.

BeechFairy · 10/08/2022 22:06

Absolutely.
I took one when DS2 was 2.5 and DS1 was 4. They both used it at times.

megletthesecond · 10/08/2022 22:06

Yes. He'll be out of routine and will probably have later nights than usual.

w0rkschmurk · 10/08/2022 22:08

Yes. We like to walk and DS couldn't handle it all day. Plus he'd nap in the buggy around lunchtime. You could check if there's anywhere around your destination that rents them out so you don't have to take up space in the car?

Echobelly · 10/08/2022 22:39

Just take a really lightweight one... we'd stopped using one for a few months before we went on holiday when youngest had just turned 4, but we knew on this city break we'd do a lot of walking, and he wasn't a big walker. We bought a super-light one that folded up really small for £20 just for the holiday - only used it a few times but was totally worth bringing with, as it enabled a few longer excursions that he'd not have managed otherwise.

Nat6999 · 10/08/2022 22:40

Yes, always handy if they are tired & at worse it is somewhere to dump everything if you are going to the beach.

MyBuggyIsOutToGetMe · 10/08/2022 22:47

Ooh, it’s almost unanimous! Interesting. We took one for our three year old when we went abroad and did use it (albeit not loads). But DC2 is quite different and probably has better stamina.

The one we’d take is our smaller one but we have a really small car. So I’m not quite sure how we will fit everything in as we have to take towels as well as usual self catering holiday stuff.

We are seeing if we can hire one through the caravan park but I can’t get through to them on the phone so may just have to make a decision.

We would probably be doing some mooching in towns which is where it would be more useful. I must admit, it will probably get more use as somewhere to dump everything in…unless we don’t take it in which case I think we might regret it….

I'm half regretting not bringing one for my 4.5 year old. I did consider it too due to the amount of walking + late nights. Shes fallen asleep with me carrying her home most nights this week and my back is killing! Plus all the piggy backs and shoulder carrys I've had to do just to get somewhere at a reasonable speed.

LadyHelenaJustina · 10/08/2022 22:57

Yes. You can then push all your kit around in it if the child wants to walk.

I miss my buggy. I now have a shopping trolley.

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 10/08/2022 22:59

When ds was 4 that summer I still took one!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/08/2022 23:06

Do take one. I once opted not to for a 3 year old, and ended up having to buy one - or else exhaust myself carrying her.
