Free samples being delivered, but I haven't ordered anything. What's going on???

Yesterday, I arrived home to a neighbour banging on my door to tell me I've received "some post"

He passed me three Evri parcels, perfectly addressed to me, which combined, weighed about half a stone.

Each one contained multiple laminate flooring samples.

Today, I came home to find a free sample of Sylk lube (addressed to one "Dorothy Merryweather" but my address) and a Royal Mail note through my door to tell me they've left a parcel with my next door neighbours.

When I knocked, she passed me multiple boxes of more laminate flooring samples, some tweed carpet samples and two boxes of fake grass samples.

I'm freaked.

I don't know anyone well enough for pranks like this to be funny or normal and my family and colleagues are denying all knowledge

I've just paid £25 to be registered with Cifas and now I'm here, asking for advice.

WTF do I do??

Also tell your neighbours not to accept any packages, you really have no idea what is being sent

@Arewerelated absolutely! OP I also hope you tell your neighbours. Whoever is doing this to you is probably capable of getting anything sent to you. Hoping you are okay.

That would upset me too, thinking that someone was actively spending time to do this kind of thing, rather than just - as a pp said - phoning a local taxi company or pizza place.

I know that some of the things are fairly generic (laminate flooring, conservatory etc), but I wondered if you have a big birthday coming up @Gingernaut ? Just wondered if the things like the SAGA brochures, bus tours etc might be seen to be targeting the more 'mature' audience so I wondered if it was more likely to be someone's idea of a laugh, poking fun at your age.

Very strange and would make me feel uneasy too.
I would log it with 101

This happened to me once for months, turned out to be my exs new partner he told me one night when I saw him drunk in the pub. X

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/08/2022 23:08

I would log everything and report it in case it escalates.
My friend's ex used to send her property details for cheaper houses from estate agents because he wanted her and her kids to get out of the house. It's harassment.

Aren't they different patterns or colours, so you could decide which one you'd like? If they are nice, could you use them as coasters or something? Do you know anyone about to remodel their place? It hopefully stops soon. I the meantime, I hope at least some of it will be useful or a welcome surprise for you.

It's harassment, not pot luck gifting

This is harassment OP, do a FOI request to the companies and explain you believe these orders are malicious.
Someone from my workplace was sacked for doing this to another colleague, traced via IP address etc

FOI only applies to public bodies, not private companies.

But you can request the information they hold on you under GDPR. You make a Subject Access Request.

Did these strange deliveries stop in the end OP? Did you find out who was behind it?

Gingernaut · 29/09/2022 21:27

They've slowed down, although I'm still getting holiday brochures
