I stayed in an up market hotel last night.
I went to the bar and made a terrible faux pa, because I approached the bar to order a drink. I was told quite bluntly that it was table service and to go and find a table.
Which I did and then waited ages for them to come and take my order.
When they came they didn't speak, just stood and looked at me with pen poised.
I'll admit I don't generally do these kinds of places, but is this normal service? I'm used to something much more friendly in the pub Is it "correct", for example, that staff don't interact with guests?
It was in London and the waiters were all men, I'd say over 40 and of Indian origin, if that makes a difference. (I don't know if it does). The hotel is part of a prestigious chain.
I'm tempted to leave a review on Trip Advisor, but if it's normal.....?
