What are you doing out of principle re cost of living

For me it’s not just about the extra money that we are going to have to find, it’s the principle of the thing. I also think we need to urgently reassess our lives and how we do things. I am not prepared to contribute to making oil companies and other big greedy corps any richer than they already are.

So, what changes are you making to your household to reduce the dependency on big co.s who care nothing for ordinary people?

Here’s our working list:

  1. Selling my petrol car and leasing an electric. I’m currently paying around £300 a month in petrol and the lease and electricity will come to less than this.

  2. Adding additional solar panels and putting in a battery system to collect what generated.

On a lesser note:

Buying an additional 2 large water butts to collect rainwater and use on garden

Doing a load shop of logs for fire

I know that I am lucky to be able to add these things to my house. I just feel that the consequences on normal people is unacceptable and feel I have to do something out of principle to say screw you to the strangle hold these companies have over us.

I like your idea about water butts. Im not really doing anything to be honest. Just cutting back on the amount I spend in general, looking for discounts and special offers on items I normally buy. Although I have always done that to a certain extent.

We cant afford to make any modifications to our house; solar panels would cost circa 6k, we dont have the right parking set up for an EV, we don’t have an open fire/log burner. I will get water butts for the garden. We are mainly looking at buying loft insulation and using layers/blankets instead of heating. Joyous.
