It’s alright! I lived there for a short while. Nice beaches and places to visit in the surrounding areas Smile

An ex boyfriend was a student at Canterbury uni and lived in Herne Bay. Not sure if it’s a ‘student’ town now? This was 25 years ago, ha!

It's lovely, you have Tankerton and Whitstable nearby. Great for restaurants/pubs. I love it there

FrownedUpon · 10/08/2022 18:01

It’s not very exciting and a bit rough around the edges. I personally wouldn’t want a holiday there.

Lovely place to stay because it is so central to many more lovely places . Hearn Bay has the pier , arcades , while to have a totally different experience up the road you have Tankerton slopes and Whitstable with its lovely harbour .
Canterbury is close for the city/ history experience and if you have National Trust membership you have Dover , Deal and Walmer castle if you don’t mind a drive . I have lived in this area for over 15 years and still love all it has to offer .

DM lives near Herne Bay
Its a nice little resort with a good enough High Street not far at all from the Beach .
There is a pier with little huts selling all kinds of Handmade goods as well .
I like It.

Oh I forgot to add
There is also an interesting little Museum called The Seaside Museum and , if you have children with you, I recommend a drive up the coast to Hampton/Stud Hill . Its on the beach and has a really great playground for the DC.
You can also sit on the sea wall and watch the jet skiers go in and out of the waves.

No big name.shops, just Poundland and things like that. Lots of individual little shops come and go. Mostly retired people and chavs in the town centre but the pier and around e there is nice. I live in Herne/Broomfield (along with Beltinge and Hampton this is naice part of HB)

There isn't a Poundland although there are a few discount style shops that sell a wide range of things.

Not somewhere I'd particularly want to go on holiday but ok if you drive and can use it as a base. The beach is pebbly, there's there's a nice enough pier, a small high high street and some nice cafes.
If driving then some nicer places to get to .... or if you fancy Whitstable or Canterbury the bus is an easy option.

floofyhouse · 12/08/2022 18:21

Herne Bay is great if the weather's good. There are lovely coastal walks along to Reculver Towers, site of an old Roman fort. The beach is pebbly but clean, there's decent fish and chips, Mackaris ice cream parlour on the seafront for a sundae, little craft stalls on the Pier, amusement arcades and mini golf if that's your thing. Lovely sunsets on the beach. Basically traditional British seaside. It's not as touristy as Whitstable or Canterbury but both are only a few miles away and easily reached on the bus or by car. We go frequently and love it there. Not much to do in the rain although that shouldn't be a problem this year.

Lovely cat cafe in Herne Bay if you like that sort of thing...

It's not exciting but it's okay with a pebble beach, pier, arcades etc and lots of nice places to visit nearby. Sandy beaches a bit further into Thanet eg Minnis Bay, Broadstairs. Canterbury is worth a day trip. Whitstable for a different slightly posher seaside vibe. Nice zoos and other stuff for kids nearby. Dover, Deal, Walmer and Leeds Castles.
