Kids locked themselves in bathroom / safeguarding

Hi

My daughter aged 2 and son aged 4 were staying at their grandparents house for a few days. When we went there to drop them, we put child safety locks on all the doors from the outside to stop them from opening the doors and going in.

Anyways they were the self adhesive ones, and the kids managed to push open the bathroom door and lock themselves in. The bathroom window was open and my son climbed out of it and sat on the conservatory. During this time my mum called the fire service and was telling my son to stay there and not jump (he is Autistic and doesnt have awareness of danger)

Thank god both of the children were rescued and there were no injuries at all. I left work and have come over

The police also showed up with the ambulance and after their checks, they said that they'll be sending a report to the safeguarding team. I am just abit worried as this has never happened before. Does anyone have experience of this? What will happen?

Our flat is completely child safe and we tried to do the same at my mums but unfortunately this happened. I will be taking the children home now. I just feel awful about this all and also stressed about the safeguarding thing

They were gone by the time I got there but did speak to me on the phone, they said they've told my mum to lock the bathroom window and that they were leaving

They did say the safeguarding thing was protocol and something they have to do, but I am just wondering what it involves

Dont worry about the safeguarding. Its standard when police arrive at things with children involved . Itll be referred to social services who may ot may not call you.
