Is this a false widow spider or something else?

Is this a false widow or something else? Are they more black usually than brown? This was inside so not happy and thought I’d squished it but it got up and started moving when I went to grab phone.

Hi op you really need to kill them.

Get on top of the population.
The webs are like a sling and very distinctive.

Get them away from all windows and close to house..
When you have actually killed them
.
Then peppermint oil to confuse smells.

It's not about not like it ,it's hiding smell of females.

But that won't get rid of them right now.

I am in the camp of killing them not moving them on. How do you get at and kill them in the eaves/high up on the house before they come in the bedrooms? Finding bigger ones around the windows now and trying to dispatch them.

I have 3 in my kitchen. They give me the heebee jeebees but I'd rather have no flies. One has taken up residence in my toaster, which shows how often I use it.
Having googled after this event. Its recommended to use the glass and cardboard/spider grabber thingy and deposit them outside because they won't harm unless you are allergic to them.
I want my windows open in the summer so insect netting is being purchased for when they bugger off.

It's definitely a noble false widow and not a lace weaver, lace weavers do not have the band around the top of the body.
A good quality flea spray (such as Indorex or Acclaim) can get rid of them.

BlueReindeer · 16/08/2022 16:24

going to be buying one of the spider sprays from Amazon that says kill on contact/long lasting. Any recommendations?
can’t believe how quickly they’ve colonised the outside of the house. And quite big and bold too!

They are the no 1 fastest growing spider across Europe and experts are re assessing their danger

I was just going to suggest Indorex. We live very rurally and get massive spiders, after using Indorex last year I haven’t seen one in the house. I also scooshed it on the outsides of my doorframes and windowsills. It’s amazing stuff.

@RayneDance

I've used it. After spraying our conservatory (for fleas, thanks to cats) we found lots of dead spiders, including a few false widows. Didn't even know they were there until they turned up dead after the flea spray.

Peppermint oil did not work for me last night, I woke up in the early hours because a false widow was crawling on my shoulder.

I don't mind spiders but feel I should now set fire to my bed.

BlueReindeer · 17/08/2022 09:00

@WildFlowerBees oh holy crap! You should absolutely set fire to your bed!
