Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs. I was quoted 3k for an MRI on my dog . For a human from £199. Wonder if I could slide my dog in and take results to the vets 😁

I think the key is in the FROM £199. I looked into having a particular GI study done last year. These private imaging places all said from £500. When I actually rang up to discuss booking in, it was more like £2500, not including the private consultant appointments before and after which were £250 each.

I wonder what body part and how many images you get for £199? An mri of your little toenail maybe? My last one was £2.5k

A chunk of the 3k for the pet MRI will be sedation to keep the squirmy little bugger still (and not be distressed).

My daughters knee MRI came in at just under 3k when you include the consultant appt and follow up.

Thing is with imaging, the scan is the easy and relatively cheap bit. The expensive bit is someone telling you what is on the scan, and then what (if anything) needs to be done about that and if some other imaging needs to be done as well.
With the dog, you get all of that, plus the sedation and I believe they are 'hot read' ie interpreted as the scan is done so that decisions can be made with the animal sedated

Nah, carry on waiting, not giving money to company who don't work on sex, how will they find my womb? They can't be really medical and only ask if you want a pink or a blue blanket?

My OH got a private MRI of his wrist last week for £160. Got the results by the time we got home.

Medical secretary in private practice in London here. Yes, good cheaper places for cheaper mris are Oryon Imaging and Vista is also ok, I think but haven't used them for some years. I have noticed that some cheap ones in the suburbs near me don't do very good images and don't always have very good radiologists reporting (ie for neurological things you really need a competent neuroradiologist to report the scan, not a general radiologist, etc). The fees vary, depending on what time slot/day you book to get it done - works just like easyjet or ryanair - more popular appointment slots are priced higher like popular flights. Scans are of equal quality and equally comprehensive of that body part regardless of fee paid. All scan centres charge per body part (regardless of size of body part so a toe unlikely to be cheaper than a hand, I believe).

Recent MRI on knee done locally cost £350, got very detailed report back but had to chase it as hadn’t been sent to me but to g.p. who got back eventually. Private physio translated report for me.
