Sea Moss

Someone has given me a jar of sea moss. It apparently has all sorts of benefits - but it tastes rank!

I’m prepared to persevere if it actually does prove beneficial so just wondering if anyone has used it and seen any improvements in anything!

I have Sea Moss because it's so good for you. I put a spoonful in with my soup so that it melts and to be honest, I can't taste it if its heated up and mixed in.

Thanks for reply @poppypetal. What do you use it in when it’s hot? Still soup?

Is it Carragheen? If so it's supposed to be good for coughs and sore throats - it can be made into a milky pudding so it's easy to swallow. If it's flaked it can be used as PP, sprinkled on soups, stews, omelettes etc or added to smoothies. It's very nutritious and low in calories.

I use the gel in soap making. Both soaked in water and steeped in the oil.

It makes a for a cracking bar of soap!

I heat my soup on the hob and add a teaspoon so that it dissolves fully. It will make your soup slightly thicker, but it won't affect the taste of the soup.

It’s not Carragheen. My friend gets it sent over from his daughter in the Caribbean and then makes it into a sort of thick liquid himself.

Thanks for the info. My friend is very much a fan of it but he has a vested interest so I was interested to hear what others thought!
