Fabulous moving in present for someone who has expensive taste

I want to buy a really lovely moving-in present for a fabulous friend. He and his husband have just bought a very fancy house and they probably have all the Aesop toiletries and Dyptique candles they need. He isn't cheffy (lives mostly off take away sushi) but does eat out well and probably has a lot fancier wine than I could afford. As far as I know a gift for the garden isn't really an option although I'm going to check as otherwise a fruit tree in a pot could be.

Budget up to about £75. Help!

What about a lovely set of chopsticks and small dishes for soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi etc so they can plate up and enjoy their sushi?

I do think you can't go wrong with a lovely bouquet of flowers.

photo frame?
tagine?
champagne bucket?
picnic blanket/hamper?
cake stand/serving platter?
tablecloth/napkins?
glass pitcher/jug for serving summer drinks?
box of goodies from Japanese supermarket?

Oh good idea, and a sake set (e.g. a jug and little cups).

@LondonMummer sorry! Just saw you mentioned the garden! I think a cherry tree can be a great way to go, it’s beautiful all year round, flowers in spring, cherries in summer, golden leaves in autumn, and the dark sculptural branches should appeal to their Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. Also, fruit trees never get tree protection orders as far as I know. They are relatively low maintenance and sour cherries do okay in the shade and are delicious. You would probably opt for one in a pot and then they can plant it out in the spring if they like

The gluttonous gardener is a website that sells beautifully packaged fruit trees and other food related gardening gifts. I had a wonderful lemon tree given to me from them - the scent of the flowers is amazing and I'm just getting my second crop of (admittedly tiny) lemons

Nice set of Eygptian cotton towels?

longtompot · 09/08/2022 11:39

A hamper with posh goodies in?

LondonMummer · 09/08/2022 11:48

Ah thank you some really great suggestions. A cherry or Amalfi lemon tree in a pot could be great and the sushi set suggestions are an excellent idea as is the champagne bucket or set for serving Summer drinks.

Fabulous people I thank you!!

Fortnum and Mason have 'mini hampers' the 'Taste of Fortnum's is bang on your budget and it has champagne, truffles, cake etc so nothing to actually cook.

@TheLion you're right, and he has bought me exceptionally lovely flowers before but as it's a moving in gift I'd really love something more permanent on this occasion
