How do you carry your inhaler when doing sports?

Any tips about the best way to keep your Ventolin inhaler with you when doing sports?

DC doesn't want to keep it in (zipped) pocket of shorts as it's uncomfortable when running

A bumbag type thing or armband?

Leafy3 · 09/08/2022 07:16

When I'm out for a run, I carry it

tattychicken · 09/08/2022 07:23

I keep mine down my sports bra or down my sock.

A "marathon belt" by Ronhill - like a bum bag but much smaller. Big enough for a inhaler, phone and house key.
Works for me as I can't bear anything bouncing around or riding up, and unlike a Flipbelt or waist pack it's small enough to stay put:

I second a running belt. Mine holds my inhaler, phone and bank card, but can hold more because the material is stretchy. It’s very slim (hard to show in pic) and comfy.

Bum bag also has phone and keys

Thank you everyone.

I forgot to actually say that I also put my inhaler in with the other bits. I’m another one who doesn’t like the feeling of a traditional bumbag but that’s because I’ve got a chunky bottom and stomach.

It's essential to carry an asthma reliever regardless of inconvenience, fashion or minor discomfort. It would save your life. Dr Christian Barnard, the famous heart surgeon, died of an asthma attack after swimming in a hotel pool because he did not have his inhaler.

Marynotsocontrary · 10/08/2022 11:01

I think that's actually what worries me the most @Grantanow. DS gets exercuse induced asthma. He's a teen now and more independent and the responsibility of remembering to always bring his inhaler with him is falling to him at least some of the time (ie when I'm not with him). And he keeps forgetting it or losing it!

The sports fields of his new school are some distance from the school itself so it's definitely a worry.

Do the school or club have policies around inhalers and epi-pens? Having them in short pockets isnt really practical and presumably wearing bags etc isnt allowed during a match, wouldnt they have to be on the sideline somewhere

Marynotsocontrary · 10/08/2022 11:39

I haven't seen policies that mention this specifically @MILLYmo0se , but I must yet speak with the school.

Yes, having an inhaler on the sideline is an option and he should take it before playing anyway.
However, I know that he prefers the security of having it on his person (when he remembers it at all). In the shorts was awkward but he sometimes put it in his sock...I think he finds it hard to leave the field in the middle of a game and would prefer to go without rather than do that, which is a worry.

Ya i can completely understand preferring to have it on him but theres always the possibility of it falling out on the pitch somewhere, tbough if he has one of the smaller barrel brands like Salamol it might be secure enough. Id be inclined to label and supply an extra inhaler to be kept with first aid kits for the inevitable day he forgets in and needs it.

Arucanafeather · 10/08/2022 18:48

I also carry mine in a running belt.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/08/2022 18:59

I stick it in an armband thingy meant for iPhones.

actiongirl1978 · 10/08/2022 19:13

I used to give mine to my games teacher to hold when I was doing school sports. They never minded.

Now I'm an adult I wear running shorts with a gel pocket so I use that, or running leggings that have a phone pocket on the side.
