Come away without my Fluoxetine - what can I do?

Visiting relatives and I’ve left my Fluoxetine at home. It’s an antidepressant. I’m here for four nights. Would it be ok to just go without it? It’s only a low dose - 20mg. Could I walk in to a local chemist, explain myself to the pharmacist, and get a small amount?

Call your GP, ask them to send an urgent prescription (even for a small amount) to your nearest Pharmacy to where you are now.

Phone your GP when it opens and ask for an emergency prescription to be sent over to a pharmacy where you are? (assuming you are still in the UK).
4 days seems a bit too long to me (not a Doctor, but DD is on same meds)

When this happened to me receyI phoned 111 & they arranged for a local pharmacy to provide the medication (min. amount to last). They could see on my medical notes it was a repeat medication. The local pharmacist rang me first before issuing the medication.
i can never get through to my GP so there was no point me trying them first

What everyone else said. Phone the gp and get them to send it to a local chemist

Flu has a very long half life Dw it's only four days. If it were something like venlafaxine then you'd be worried. Should be fine esp at such a low dose

taybert · 08/08/2022 07:25

If you have proof that you’re on it (right hand side of prescription or NHS app with repeat medications listed etc) then you can go in to a pharmacy and get an emergency supply. That way you can avoid calling the GP on a Monday morning.

Howmanysleepsnow · 08/08/2022 07:58

111 online. You can order an emergency pharmacist prescription. Don’t worry about proving you are prescribed it, they can access dispensing records.
I wouldn’t try to go without, you can get withdrawal effects after a couple of days (despite the half life).

Your gp can fax or email a Px to a pharmacist near you. If you cant get through to gp it is worth going into nearest pharmacy and asking them to help. They might be able to contact your gp or your regular pharmacy. I always get my repeats through the same pharmacy and they know me and have all my medication records. I can email or phone them directly if I need advice.

Boots do emergency medication but I don't know what you have to provide. They then send a letter to the GP advising them that they have given a few tablets.

I think 111 would probably be a quicker option than your GP (but mine is quite slow when it comes to things like this!).

Thank you, everyone. Just updating, but all good advice. 111 has 20 min wait time, so I’ll call them back if I have to. My usual pharmacist told me to call my GP, but the receptionist there was unsure if I might have to register as a temporary resident here. She said she’ll check and I’ll get a call back. I’ll walk into a pharmacy later, nevertheless. The info about the half life was good, very reassuring. I’ve gone a couple of days without it before and been fine.

111 sorted this for me when I forgot my antibiotics. Very quick and easy.

heartchakra · 08/08/2022 18:29

I was on 20mg for several months n just stopped cold turkey not a single side effect because of the half life
