I've been offered 2 jobs on the nhs. I'm an ODP.

Job one is deputy head of theatres in the trust I'm in now, but different hospital. Focusing on breast surgery. Band 6 25 mins commute, on call etc

Job 2. Is an advanced position with a 2 year postgrad course included in the job, paid full time, masters degree, will be a surgical assistant at the end of it, different trust but closer to home (15 min commute). More opportunities after I've completed the course, paid for opportunity, once in a lifetime thing really, guaranteed job after training.

I'm 31 and we don't have kids. Job 1 allows us to ttc, Job 2 id have to wait until I graduate. I've got make a decision by 9am tomorrow.

I'm really stuck!
Please help

Job 2 . Good Luck .

I'd take job 2 as long as the pay is roughly similar to a Band 6.

Job 2, better prospects all round and a once in a lifetime opportunity, in your own words, that may not come your way again. Plus more options available to you if you want to return to work after having children. Add to that a much shorter commute and no on call work.

You are young at 31, still plenty of time for children.

I'm not NHS but job 1 sounds better than 2 to me

Carpetfluffy · 07/08/2022 22:12

@Babyroobs it is equivalent, that's why I'm conflicted. Plus it's band 7 on completion of the course.

Job 2 as there's better warning potential and your maternity pay will be better and even going back 3-4 days a week would be a good salary
Good luck

It sounds like a great opportunity. I would however be a little concerned at how easy it would be to go on mat leave within a year or so of completing the course. Would you need to have some sort of consolidation period after qualifying? I might be worried about having a years break soon after qualifying.

Job 2, it's a golden opportunity, don't miss it!
