We have never done any work of this kind so I genuinely have no idea if the quotation we have received is reasonable or not. Does anyone have any experience in the area?

Remodelling of a small en-suite:

  • removing current shower, basin and toilet
  • knocking into an existing wall, empty pocket of space, for more room
  • fitting shower (and tray and screen), new toilet and new basin (which comes with a vanity unit
  • fitting wet wall panels and ceiling

2 workers, 5 days, includes pipes and fittings.

We will buy and provide the new shower, toilet, basin, wall panels, etc

Quote is £2,800, we're in the West of Scotland if that makes any difference??

Did they say how many hours a day they would be there?

Does the cost include them removing and disposing of the old suite & the wall/rubble they’ve taken out?

plumbers can be £40+ per hour so 80 odd hours between them @£30 + per hour along with & pipes, fittings & rubbish removal & disposal? Ask them for a breakdown of the quote and maybe ask another firm for a quote to compare maybe?

Sounds very reasonable to me! Incl or excl of VAT? We’re Northumberland and just had 2 quotes, one £6k and the other £9k for similar, albeit with plastering half tiling and painting instead of wet panels.

I had my bathroom refitted in December with no walls being knocked through, I'm also in west Scotland. We had 2 or 3 workers and it took them 3 days. The cost not including the bathroom fittings, cupboards, floor, wall panels and ceiling was £2390. I'd say yours seems like a good price.

Thanks all. I feel reassured that this is in the ballpark so I'll likely go with them.

Someone mentioned getting another quote but I'm really struggling to find anyone else to do it. One guy said he would but just didn't come back to me. Another guy told me his list was a year long and he wasn't adding anyone else. Asking around, it's been the same for friends.

I should probably hang on to these guys then!

I also think that sounds reasonable - we paid more £3k (South West England), with no wall knocked down, but included tiling. We only had one person on site but it did take two weeks. Good luck, hope it all goes to plan.

BunnyChowLover · 07/08/2022 18:35

Sounds good to me. £2300 for our en-suite this month but that’s along with a discount for the family bathroom being done too

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/08/2022 18:56

Have you seen evidence of their other work or legitimate reviews?

The price sounds fine, low even.

I agree it is a nightmare finding tradesmen and a lot of the good ones are indeed booked up or charging higher rates at present. They may well be great and it's a stroke of luck but every time I've gone with a cheap quote or the only person who was quickly available the last few years of doing up our home, it was very evident in the aftermath that there was a reason for that.

myyellowcar · 07/08/2022 18:57

Sounds quite cheap!

Goldenphoenix · 07/08/2022 18:58

Sounds good to me with the wall removal as well!

Yes I have, thanks.

This company did work for acquaintances- I use that word, rather than friend as we're not close enough to ask about money.

We've been quoted south of England for almost exactly the same job, but also a bit of electrics, and tiling and the quote is 8k if we do the family bathroom at the same time. I nearly cried! I don't think we'll go ahead when it's this expensive right now, we just don't have the budget!

Walkerbean16 · 07/08/2022 19:38

Seems cheap to me, I own a plumbing company, we would charge more than that.

JAC76 · 07/08/2022 19:40

We’re west of Scotland too, I think this is reasonable yes. What about flooring - if your getting tiles etc it’s easier to get that done at the same time as the bathroom. Is it an electric shower? If so check What quotation includes. And also if inclusive of VAT and disposing of the rubbish. Good luck.

WinterMusings · 07/08/2022 19:42

have you checked thoroughly that it's not a load bearing wall.

I wanted to do that here, but discovered they'd done something unconventional in the building and it was load bearing.

very fucking annoying !

Ohtoberoavingagain · 07/08/2022 19:44

Sounds reasonable to me. Does it include the new suite?
I had a bathroom refitted 4 years ago, Bath, basin, toilet removed and replaced in same positions although basin and loo were fitted into new cupboard units, if that makes sense. I paid the same as your quote including the new suite, apart from the taps.

SgurrNaCìche · 07/08/2022 19:52

We thought about doing this and was given a very similar price. (Scotland also)

CyrilBasket · 07/08/2022 19:56

I've just paid £3800 for similar including the fittings
