Alternative to Go Henry

Looking for a card for DS (10). He really wants Go Henry but I'm not keen on the monthly cost. Any free alternatives that are just as good?

There seems to be so many options out there

He can get a regular (free) children's bank account that will come with a debit card at age 11.
I'd wait until he is 11.

A neighbour recommended Hyperjar to us. We're just waiting for the cards to arrive in the post.

We have rooster for my kids

With a Revolut account you can get a free child’s account - the card is £5 but after that it’s free and really easy to set up and use. My 10 year old has one. He can even use it abroad without charges.

I'd wait until age 11 too and then he can get a free bank account with debit card

Forgetaboutme · 07/08/2022 16:18

Revolut here too. I got myself a card for using abroad and then saw the option for a linked junior card. You pay a one off for the card but that's it. It was really good for me too when I was abroad

Another vote for HyperJar. It's completely free and we're really pleased with it so far.

Alarae · 07/08/2022 16:21

My sister told me about Hyperjar and she's happy with it.

Agreed. Revolut is great, and so easy for them to check their balance and expenditure on the app.

Revolut junior ! 15 year old stepson has one linked to husbands account and finds it great

DaanSaaf · 07/08/2022 16:22

We also have hyper jar, it's great

Bigchezemakeme · 07/08/2022 16:24

I don’t think £30 a year is a lot for a banking service that includes money lessons etc. kids don’t store much in there so it’s not like they can make much money through interest, how do you propose they raise revenue?

skyeisthelimit · 07/08/2022 16:26

I used Revolut until DD was old enough to get a Santander bank account at 13

At first I just gave DD my Revolut card to use, then got her one of her own. There is a one off charge of £5 for the Junior card. The app is so easy to use and there is a monthly transfer limit. You can freeze the card whenever you like too.

I also refuse to pay money to a firm for a kids account when there are so many free options out there.

dementedpixie · 07/08/2022 16:27

I'm just not paying for something they don't need when they are younger and can get for free when they are 11.

RightsHoardingRaptor · 07/08/2022 16:28

We have Rooster and there is no monthly fee for a year I think if you are with NatWest

Jolinar · 07/08/2022 16:47

Hyper jar here too.

Glittertwins · 07/08/2022 17:09

Got standard bank accounts with a debit card when they were 11. There's a limit on the daily transactions and they can't go overdrawn. It's free too.
