Baby suddenly refusing pram naps

DS 10 months has suddenly decided over the past week or 2 to refuse pram naps, weeks before I go back to work so shit timing. He isn’t going to have the option to nap in his cot when I’m back to work so I’m not sure what to do here. He will go to my mums 2 days and a childminder the other day so will be out and about and really needs to nap in there. He used to nap in there up to 2 hours on a morning. Now we will literally have to walk aaages before he might finally drop off to sleep but then he wakes up after 15 mins or so or as soon as you bring him back in the house. Bought a snooze shade which made no difference. He hasn't always been a good napper, before we went on holiday abroad in June he would only briefly nap in there or nap on me but when we went away he napped amazingly in it and continued this when we got home until now. (We've also booked another holiday for September and I'm now dreading it at the thought of having to be trapped in the room for hours while he naps if he refuses pram naps). Any suggestions would be great.

We used to make sure that the baby was facing the sun, their eyes would shut as a side effect, and bingo, a bit of shugling/rocking the pram, and the baby would fall asleep. This was 20 odd years ago. Obvs you would take into account the strength of the sunshine/delicate baby skin etc.

How many naps does he have a day? Mine went down to just one at lunchtime at that age.

Once asleep of course move thr pram into shade.

Pram naps aren't the most comfy for a 10 month old though are they.
I take it he sleeps fine in cot at night? Can you get a travel cot? Can be used at your mums.
Childminders, you'll be amazed how children when at CM/nursery.

Holiday in Sep, the hot weather, pool etc will make him sleep. Just put him on the sunbed under an umbrella

Mine is the same, happened about 9 months I think. He’s just too nosey now when out and about. My mum has a cot at her house but even then sometimes he’s so distracted by the room he won’t go to sleep. Have you got a travel cot they could use when you’re back to work?

I haven't got a travel cot but will definitely need to get one for my mams. Just wish he would be a bit flexible and also nap in the pram now and then so we don't have to work the full day around his naps. Yes he too is sooo nosy, constantly trying to sit up when I lie the pram down I don't know how he hasn't got abs at this point 😂 he usually has 2 naps, one in the morning for 1-2 hrs then one in the afternoon for about 1hr however the last few days it's been a bit all over the place with him fighting the pram naps.

Mine also started to fight naps and bedtime around that age so we transitioned to 1 and no more problems. Sometimes she still has 2 naps if she got up earlier than usual/had a bad night, as she can't make it to lunch time and if her nap is too early she'd be in bed too early. We just play it by ear but most of the time 1 nap works better and she'll normally have two hours.

Bed time has also became a struggle, it's taking so long to get him down to sleep. He's also slept amazingly at night and once he's asleep he's down for the night but actually getting him to sleep these past few weeks can sometimes be a long task!

Sounds like he needs to drop down to just one nap a day.

helenmelons7 · 07/08/2022 19:43

I did wonder if he was possibly ready to drop to one nap, but he is so clearly tired, yawning and rubbing his eyes and you can just tell he's shattered but he just fights it, he's always been a bit of a nap fighter though.
