My crown has come off my tooth

And it feels so strange having a gap in my teeth. I can not resist poking it with my tongue.

Can't get a dentist appointment until Wednesday.

Just saying!

My bridge fell out. It was replaced within 2 days but fell out again.
It was the 28 looooong days before it could finally be refitted. I spent the whole time with my tongue wedged in the gap. I couldn’t stop myself doing it. It was very weird!

This happened to me a few weeks ago on a Friday night.

I knew it would be at least 1-2 weeks before I'd get it sorted on the NHS, so got it done privately the next morning. Cost £80 and was well worth it!

If it gets sensitive dab on some desensitising toothpaste
And keep it clean

still need to sort mine after if felt out two years ago. You've reminded me to phone my dentist next week!

JimmiChoux · 06/08/2022 16:46

Yes I've been brushing my teeth every time I eat anything.

Luckily I still have the crown, I didn't swallow. I was munching on a large toblerone 🤣

My NHS dentist left and the new one doesn't start for another 6 weeks so I've no choice to pay privately.

You can temporarily (daily) fix the old crown in place with fixadent or similar.

I had wondered about that. I'm going to leave it alone though as my tooth next door to the missing crown has also lost a piece of its filling at the same time.

I'm right off Toblerone. Years ago I broke a tooth eating a Topic bar. There appears to be a theme going on here with chocolate.

I also didn't realise that when you have a crown, there is actually no tooth underneath. I thought a crown just kind of slipped over the top of your tooth. Like a little jacket.

Don’t do this! You need to wait at least 30 mins to brush after eating anything or you brush the enamel off your teeth!

At the very beginning of lockdown I had a tooth fall apart. It was quite painless but it left a huge gap. I couldn’t help but poke it with my tongue all the time. The problem was that because it was such a long time until I could get it fixed I ended up permanently damaging my jaw because of the way I was moving it to get at the broken tooth.

MrsMorton · 06/08/2022 18:16

OP, sounds like you've fractured the tooth off. Might not be fixable if there's no tooth underneath.

I've lost the energy to comment on needing dental treatment being related to eating chocolate, MN don't seem to want preventative info.

hope you get it fixed soon.

Toblerone's vicious. Years ago a colleague's husband gave her a giantbonevfor Christmas. So, after lunch, she shoved a giant triangle in her mouth - started to chew, and dislocated her jaw. Afternoons in a+e!

Ourlady · 06/08/2022 18:31

There is a tooth under a crown otherwise how would it stay put. You must have stalled the tooth off OP.
