Emergency money help if not on benefits

Does anyone know if this is a thing?
My other half hasn't been paid today (gets paid Friday weekly) not only have direct debits bounced for today but we have no food. Nothing to tide us over and no savings . Any idea if there's a hardship type grant for just normal everyday people?

You should be able to get an emergency food bank referral, which would solve one of the problems, and if you call each of the companies who had DD bounce, most will give you time to pay (if it's a one off).

Otherwise just credit cards or overdraft, though these are better arranged in advance. Payday loans exist and would be tempting, but avoid if at all possible.

You may be eligible for a food bank the trussell trust's website gives the procedure

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/08/2022 15:55

How awful, I am so sorry. Does your area have a Community Pantry (as opposed to a Food bank) No referrals are needed to use the Pantry in our area.

Is there anything that could be sold? I don't know, like golfing gear/clubs? Anything that can be cancelled, any membership type things?

Once this weekend is done, have a think about one or both of you trying to find part time weekend work, you would have to tag team care of the children, which sucks a bit, after working all week, but needs must.

You could maybe sell something at cash converter to tide you over, if you have children and are living wage to wage I think you might be entitled to working benefits to top up,

Needmorelego · 05/08/2022 16:00

Why hasn't he been paid? Can't his work give him some money until they've sorted out what is obviously some kind of error.

GrazingSheep · 05/08/2022 16:01

Can you ask family/friends?

Our church has a hardship fund, and can be used to bridge income gaps. We can also do referrals to the foodbank.

Try your local church.

This. It's down to his work to fix the error.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/08/2022 16:25

What have you got in your cupboards, fridge, freezer??

newbiename · 05/08/2022 16:31

Not sure about grants etc sorry but what are his work doing to rectify this ?
Are you entitled to any top up benefits ?
Emergency overdraft if possible?

bigbluebus · 05/08/2022 16:41

His employer needs to fix this.
DHs employer messed up their payroll (put the wrong date in) one month and no-one got paid. Email was sent out as soon as error was spotted offering to pay an immediate advance to anyone who needed funds immediately to pay for food or bills.

Onlyrainbows · 05/08/2022 16:56

Wildcard (and won't solve the imminent issue) but have you thought about asking his employer for compensation?.

Babyroobs · 05/08/2022 17:03

Emergency overdraft on monday?

BarbaraofSeville · 05/08/2022 17:59

Might be too late for today but his employer should do a same day payment for at least enough to tide you over the weekend even if they can't do his full salary.

Also try a food bank.

How's your budget in general? If you have debts don't pay them at the expense of normal living costs including an emergency fund. If you're in that position it might be a sign you need a more formal solution.

H3ll00 · 05/08/2022 18:01

A lot of local councils have crisis funds but I don’t think you’ll be able to apply until Monday now
