Sertraline is making me sweat a lot

I started on 50mg of sertraline around 3 months ago for anxiety and depression, it took around 2 months to start working. I decided (with my GP's agreement) to try going up to 100mg. Looking back, I'm not sure why but I just felt like I wanted to try a higher dose to see if it could give me even more beneficial effects on my anxiety.

I've been on 100mg for 3 weeks and have noticed a bigger reduction in anxiety. I feel a lot more clear headed and just feel more present. However, I have been sweating a lot. I've never been a sweaty person am usually someone who is cold a lot of the time. The other day I had a quick 10 minute walk and was sweating everywhere, my forehead and chest had beads of sweat on which I've never experienced in my life.

I spoke to my GP and we decided to take me back down to 50mg, but if I see an increase in anxiety again I'll maybe have to try another antidepressant medication.

Has anyone experienced this side effect? Would it have eventually gotten better if I kept up on the 100mg or is it a sign my dose was too high?

I sweated a lot at night when I took it. Every night woke up soaked in sweat. And I’m not a sweaty person at all.
Never effected me during the day though for some reason.

Yeah same here. You have to make sure you have enough water in the heat as you become dehydrated more easily

As far as my GP said it was a fairly normal side effect. I just live with it (on 150mg) but guess if I had an issue they would move me

I take a different antidepressant and have this problem. It can be so bad that I’m dropping my dosage slowly. I’ve been on Sertraline and it didn’t affect me so if I have to go up I’m going to ask to swop.

To be honest it's a side effect of most anti depressant and anti anxiety meds. It's to do with the pharmacology of how they actually work but it is one of the more irritating side effects. I learnt to live with it because I felt like it was worth it for the rest of the benefits of the meds

It was anxiety about sweating that was the reason for son to take sertraline.
He actually stopped sweating after a few weeks. Please try and not analyse too much.
The body really does play tricks on you when anxious.💐

Me, have to have all the windows open lol.

Yes. I suffer bad with sweating and night sweats since I started on Sertraline about 5 months ago.

Severe excess sweating here for years (Venlafaxine). The sweating ruined my life and my esteem.

Finally a medication that works - pro bepanthine. I think 15 mg twice a day.

It really does work. But it's quite severe on dry eyes and dry mouth ie lips stick to teeth when talking! I don't care though as long as my face, body and hair aren't soaking.

Yes, increased sweating is actually a pretty common side effect of sertraline, especially when you raise the dose. For some people, it does settle down after a while, but for others it can stay quite persistent, so you weren’t imagining it. If dropping back to 50mg helps and your anxiety stays manageable, that might be the sweet spot for you. If symptoms creep back, it could be worth discussing with your GP whether to try a slower titration or maybe even combine with lifestyle adjustments before switching meds.

I’ve been on Zoloft for a long time myself, and honestly it works just excellent for me. What really matters is making sure you’re using high-quality Zoloft — that makes all the difference in both effectiveness and tolerability. There are a lot of generics and questionable sources out there, and the consistency isn’t always reliable. Personally, I always get mine from this trusted online pharmacy 👉 healway.co.uk/zoloft-sertraline. The results have been consistently great, and I’ve never had issues with quality or delivery.

For me, Zoloft has really helped me feel balanced, more stable, and able to handle stress without feeling overwhelmed. The initial adjustment wasn’t the easiest, but once things leveled out, it’s been life-changing. I’d say stick close to your doctor’s guidance, but don’t get discouraged — finding the right dose and source can make all the difference.
