Feels like glass stuck in my throat!

I had a bit of dh food earlier...mushrooms on toast... it tasted lovely but Jesus, I felt something lodge in my throat and as I bent double vomiting over the kitchen sink I truly thought...so this is how I die 🤣

It's still there. It feels like something sharp. Either stuck really low down on my tongue (like down my throat) or up at the back of the roof of my mouth.

I've tried to find it with my fingers or toothbrush but I just end up vomming. It's really uncomfortable. What the fuck is it and how do I get it out??

Ouch that sounds unpleasant.

Foreign objects do feel bigger/sharper/harder when they are lodged where you don’t want them, but it doesn’t sound like toast or mushroom does it?

If you’ve tried all the obvious things, (big glass of water, eating something soft like plain bread or banana), you might need to get a doctor or nurse to take a look.

If it's a food particle - it'll be stuck in your vallecula or pyriform fossa - not touchable by fingers - you'll always gag and vomit before you get anywhere close. Drink lots of water, try tucking your chin down when you do it to open up the vallecula

More likely, it's aggravated tissue and muscle strain from vomiting giving you the sensation of something still there. Try and relax, drink plenty and see what it's like in the morning?

Or if it's really bad and a danger to breathing etc - needs A&E to 'remove the foreign body'.

Definitely not toast or mushroom!

It happened about 4 hours ago and it's still there, I've had plenty of water, half a croissant and some toast, hoping it would dislodge but to no avail. Can't see anything either.

Interesting reading about the vallecula, thank you. I guess yes I will have to wait until morning. Hope its gone because honestly cba with a visit to a and e. I have a newborn and am on my own tomorrow 🙃

The practice nurse might take a look? I suppose it depends on surgery policy.

If it's beyond your mouth (so anywhere in the throat) you'd need a scope (camera) to look at it - when they stick a tongue depressor and a torch in your mouth, they really can't see much more than you can in the mirror! So most GP surgeries can't have a proper look at this sort of stuff.

Obviously I'm not going to attempt to give medical advice given I'm not qualified but wanted to share with you what my dp did as exactly the same thing happened to him, with rice of all things. He also vomited several times, worried he would choke and really struggled with the glass feeling you describe. He frantically searched the net on what to do and settled on the fizzy drink option (cola is best apparently), he drank enough for the bubbles to activate in his throat and enough to cause the good 'ol burping. Went to sleep worrying about possible outcomes as he still had the sensation but when he woke up he was back to normal. He wondered whether he'd scratched his throat causing the initial sensation.

Obviously if it gets concerning for you, forget the coke and get medical advice but hopefully you and he had the same thing, good luck and congrats on your newborn

Have a good look with a torch in the mirror. I once got a piece of rosemary wedges in the flaps of skin at the back of my throat. It was agony but once I could see it I could remove it carefully with tweezers.

Woke up this morning and the sharp things has gone! I have a very sore throat but I am so relieved. Thanks all!
