Quick question about ear piercing

Im due to have my ears pierced tomorrow - I'll be had them done for decades but don't wear earrings right now due to ripping both lobes taking off a jumper some years ago!

So I'm having fresh piercings a little bit further along

Can I remove the earrings I have to have them pierced with immediately and replace with my own? They're solid gold for what it's worth and small

It's probably not best practice but I take it my ears won't drop off if I do?

No you need to keep the ones they give you in. The hole needs to be big enough to start with as it will shrink when it heals up

No, don’t take them out, you’ll increase the risk of infection. Your earrings (and hands) won’t be sterile.
And the posts on the ones you have them pierced with will be thicker.

Blimey no. Just leave them alone for a while. There'll be plenty of time to wear your own earrings.

I might be currently nursing a new tragus piercing that's bloody killing me though Grin

I really, really wouldn’t. It’s not worth the aggro. When I was younger you got very little choice but now you can choose from a variety of piercing earrings, so you can choose a pair you like.

No. Don’t do this you’ll introduce all sorts of bacteria, and cause lots of trauma to a new wound.

As PP said go to a high quality piercer, preferably an APP member and you will be able to choose beautiful studs for your new piercing. It’s not like it used to be where new piercings had to have plain studs in them.

I was coming on to say this, I've had cartilage piercings done with really fancy earrings, it's different than it used to be when they would fire plain gold studs into your ears with a gun!

Just leave them alone afterwards and they will be fine, messing with them is where you get problems. I use a spray on saline solution to keep mine clean and that's it.

I would suggest you leave them in for about 6 weeks and do not turn them as this hinders your immune systems healing process.

You may not feel like taking them out tomorrow anyway, as they could be a bit tender for a while.

I re pierced one of mine about 2 months ago because it half healed up ( I could only put the earring half way through) so I left a small gold sleeper in it for 6 weeks, day and night.

I removed the piercing to put new earings in a few days ago and it has healed very well. I always take all earings out at night apart from this one and I put earrings in every day.

I love them! 😁 all 5 of my lobe piercings in both ears.

Just don't go near me with a magnet.

GiantCheeseMonster · 04/08/2022 20:36

If you go to a decent piercer (ie where they will use a needle not gun) they will have a vast range of jewellery to choose from. Gone are the days when you had to have plain round studs!

BogRollBOGOF · 04/08/2022 20:52

Is there enough scar-free lobe to pierce?
I've refused to pierce a torn ear before because the next part of the ear to not have scar tissue was too high up to have the aesthetic the client wanted. She wasn't impressed, but my manager backed me up. This was at a notorious high street accessories seller who were daft enough to employ me to modify people's bodies 😂

mimbleandlittlemy · 04/08/2022 21:02

I have just had second lobe piercings and was having trouble with one so went back, and a really good bit of advice from the person who was there yesterday was to put the saline solution into a spray bottle - from Boots or similar - and spray the piercings each day rather than wipe them with saline soaked cotton wool, then you keep touching to a bare minimum which is what you need for at least 3 weeks really. I had my ears pierced with really lovely 18ct gold and crystal studs - there was a huge choice of really pretty and plain. Very different to when I had them done first time around 40 years ago.

toastfiend · 04/08/2022 22:55

If you go to a decent professional piercing studio they'll have a selection of nice jewellery for you to choose from, just pick yourself something you like from what they have. Definitely don't take the new piercings straight out and put your old studs in unless you fancy an infection and/or a really difficult healing process.

Do be aware that choosing from an array of beautiful jewellery can add quite a lot of additional expense to the basic cost of your piercing, though... (Speaking as someone who has just spent ££££ on a Daith because I liked the fancy jewellery most! 😂)

HardRockOwl · 04/08/2022 23:28

Ok I think the overwhelming advice is not to do it!

I have some amazing Maria Tash earrings that I really wanted to put in but I will be sensible

Thanks all
