Childcare for 2-4 year old during holidays

Hi Everyone,

I'm a little torn with what to do with childcare for my little one. They will be attending two nurseries with a 4 to 1 split. The nursery that is 4 days a week operates during term time and is a really good nursery. The other, I hope will offer childcare during the summer holidays but I'm not really keen on.

I would like to go 5 days a week to the really good nursery. Only thing is, during school holidays I'm not aware of any clubs/camps suitable for a child of this age? A nanny is another option but I'd rather not have different nannies for every holiday period, I would like some consistent child care arrangements.

I'm based berkshire area.

No advice for your area as I am elsewhere in the country but I used a childminder for holiday care when 2 and 3yrs old and then started combination of holiday camp and childminder once 4. Our childminder tends to have spaces in holidays as some regulars have term time contracts.

Holiday camps in my area take from 3 years old and DD is confident and not phased by new environments so it suited us well.

If its good enough for 1 day why isn't it good enough for the holidays? I am just wondering your thinking on that one

Wondering the same as @Ontomatopea ! I don’t think you’d find a nanny for just school
holidays, most want long term contracts. You might get a student babysitter in the summer but they wouldn’t have the insurance and qualifications a nanny would have. Would your employer allow you to do compressed hours over the holidays?

Thanks prescribingmum, will consider that.

I'm not keen on the "1 day" nursery because while I'm hopeful, i don't think I would get the level of availability i need based on past experience. Without any holiday period alternative I have to give myself the option or at least reduce the impact of lessened childcare.
